Another Hospital Visit - Just a Progress Checkup.

Submitted by TiM on

Went out to the Hospital again on Monday morning, first of all for a scan and then to see the specialist. The scan went fairly well, Baby's thigh bones are a bit shorter than average for 37 weeks, but baby's head is a little bit bigger. There was also a bit of enlargement of the value/tube/thing that attaches to the left Kidney, though later they told us this is quite a common find and they'll just check on baby after he/she is born. So overall a good scan, though I always get really scared and nervous when they tell you...

Midwife

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah's midwife appointment was Tuesday, I was a bad husband and didn't attend because I'm quite busy with a work. A terrible excuse I know, soon I'll be singing that "Cat's in the Cradle" song!!

But it went really well. Her blood pressure was great, and there was no protein this time! So Claire has said we're good to go with a birthplan because it seems like things are much more likely to be on track etc. Great news.

And it's August today! It's the birth month!

Felt the baby kick!

Submitted by TiM on

Very exciting, I finally felt the baby kicking tonight! It was a really sharp little kick too, BOOM he/she went on Sarah's tummy. It was awesome, I feel like I've been missing out. But I definitely felt this little kick tonight.

It was the 27th yesterday, that means only 4 more weeks! Exciting times ahead, I think we've got everything prepared. I hope we have, Sarah's done a great job. We just need one more trip to The Warehouse to get things ready really, just T-Shirts and stuff like that for Sarah.

Very very exciting!!!!

Ante Natal

Submitted by TiM on

Ante Natal again last night. Sarah and I were feeling a bit over it, like it wasn't really teaching us a real lot, but then last night was great! We learnt so much about breast feeding, how to attach baby, how the milk flows, how long you can store milk for (4 hours on the bench, 2 days in the fridge, 4 months in the freezer) and all that sort of stuff.
They're not at all allowed to talk about Formula, it's a really dirty word! Which seems a bit silly to me, why stick your head in the sand...

Last Visit to the Midwife

Submitted by TiM on

It was our last visit to the midwife today. She was very nice to us, we talked about the Williams Warn that her husband is the inventor of too which was pretty cool!

She measured Sarah and we listened to the babies heartbeat (file attached!) Baby has moved into the breach position which is good, ready to appear. 31 weeks and 1 day today, not too long to go now. Everything is progressing really nicely.

Epidural

Submitted by TiM on

We went to an Epidural course last night. It wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be and I think we learnt a bit. It was organised by the Auckland Hospital, an anesthetist was there who gave us a talk and explained how it all works. They're not as dangerous as I thought at all.

At the end of the day it's all up to Sarah what she wants, but it was good for us both to go to learn about it. Makes it all seem just that bit more real!

Midwife

We went to the Wid-Wife last week, that was funny. She said a few things that totally cracked Sarah up, which didn't help and then I cracked up too! She was telling us about how her little boy got really sick with Tetnus over the new year, how she made the papers etc. So I looked her up when we got home and sure enough yes, they did, front page stuff. Turns out her husband is the guy who invented the Williams Warn homebrew machines as well! It's a small world.

We got to hear baby's heartbeat on a little...

Baby Kicking!

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah kept saying "You must be able to feel it!" as we tried to see if I could feel the baby kicking last night. But I couldn't, very disappointing. 25 weeks now! Exciting times. Holly and Adrian gave us the cutest little white knitted babywears. Clothes, I guess they're called. We've decided we're going to take him/her home from the hospital in them.

20 Week Scan

Submitted by TiM on

Had our 20 week scan tonight, bright and early (7:45am) at the Parnell Clinic. Scan went well, though little Terri wouldn't get into the right position so the lady wasn't able to complete the scan of his/her heart. So we have to head back next Friday, another week of growth and hopefully he or she will be in a much better mood and more open to being scanned by the nice scanning lady!

But all progress is good though, everything is fine and we're on track! Exciting times.

Kicking!

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah felt kicking last night, while we were talking about Terry and looking up what size he/she is (currently Navel Orange size)

Exciting! There were 3 kicks, then 1. Then all went silent again.
Go Go Terry!
