An interesting discussion broke out the other day after Simon (my flatmate's boyfriend) made fresh jelly and put it straight into the fridge. Hera said that's not the thing to do, it can ruin the fridge etc because jelly is made from boiling water.
At this point they both looked at me and said "Well?" at which point I put my head down and said "I'm staying right out of this discussion".
Always the safe bet. But later I admitted that I didn't see anything wrong with putting hot things in the fridge.
Today I get an email from Hera's friend saying "what a stupid male you are, everyone knows that you don't put hot things in fridges" (she was only joking with me) but I rang up the Fisher and Paykel hotline to ask them anyway! I'm not going to be called stupid, even if I am stupid!! The man said "Well, it's OK to put Jelly in, but I wouldn't put anything really large in that's hot, it might damage the fridge" so I think I was 1/2 right.
Read the friendly little discussion that me and Hera had about this!! heh. You know I'm right, Hera ;)

Re: Thoughts on fridges...
tim,
i don't put the jelly in the fridge til it has cooled down a bit. it only makes sense. all the other food and the fridge has to deal with the warmth of the jelly if you don't let it cool first. and that can be a health hazard. unlikely, in the case of jelly, but better to have policies and stick to them...

Re: Thoughts on fridges...
Am procrastinating and have just read discussion on Hera's site - I'm sorry I said anything! AND I did not call you STUPID! I merely implied that men can be clueless. Actual comment: 'MEN, honestly'!
But really, we (Hera and Me) are right and you (Simon and Tim) are wrong, and i think that this was backed up by the subsequent discussion.
You must have been having a slow day, Tim!
