Extra-Rant with Cheese.

Submitted by TiM on

I haven't written a nice long rant in a while and I'm right in the mood to do one. So stop reading now if you can't stand my long rantings and their worse-than-terrible grammer. I think if my old english teacher read one of these she'd probably hand her resignation in the same day and become a dairy farmer.

I've decided I'm going to use this book/organiser icon just for extra long rants like this one. So click the read more thingy to read about TelstraSaturn buying Clear, the lazy-arse Mr LandLord and various other stupid rantings that really aren't worth the bytes of data they're stored on.

It sucks that we're buying Clear. That's a pretty major step for the company, not to mention the fact that we are pretty much now back under the control of Telstra Australia. AusStar (Saturn's parent company) was unable to make payroll last time so Telstra "chipped in". That basically means that Telstra has the controlling share of the company. That combined with the fact we just brought Clear, and suddenly Telstra Australia is running a good half (if not more) of all the communications in New Zealand. Fek, and I thought I'd managed to get away from Telstra.

The next few months are going to be very interesting, trying to merge two Internet companies as big as we are will be a a logistical nightmare. We still haven't properly integrated companies that we brought a year ago.

Mike, my Landlord (hereafter known as "Mr LandLord") is being a cheap bastard again. About 3-4 months ago (if not longer) there was a major plumbing issue in my flat. Water was leaking from my bathroom downstairs into the neighbours apartment. Finally a plumber was called (I'd already told the landlord about it, he didn't do anything) by the neighbours. Because it was left so late aftter being told Mr LandLord ended up with a big stinking bill. He was not a happy camper, but that's his problem not mine. Anyway, while the plumber was fixing the leak he had to bash a couple of stinking great holes in the bathroom walls. They have since sat there gaping at me every day, taunting me to patch them up. I told Mr LandLord the day after the plumber left that they were there, but has he done anything about it the last ages? Nope. Mr LandLord is lazier than me. I sent him a nasty letter a few weeks ago, that got a "oh, I can't find anyone who'll do it" reply from him. Finally I rang up a few places on Monday, described the problem to them and got them to say that they would take on this job and fix it. So armed with this information I rang up Mr Landlord and said "If you do not fix it, I am getting one of these people in to do it and sending you the bill. If you don't like that lets go to the Tenancy Tribunal." That scared him enough so that 10 minutes later I had another guy on the phone asking when he could come around and look at the job. He came around this morning to look at the job and said "Well I've just got to give Mr LandLord a ring, tell him how much it is, then I'll get right on it."

I didn't hear anything all day.

Then tonight a get a phone call from Mr LandLord saying "Oh, is it OK if I come and have a look at the job and see what needs to be done?" Sure I say, nearly falling over with laughter. It's going to be expensive, I already knew that. Obviously Mr PlasterBoardDude has rung Mr LandLord and told him how much it's going to cost, and Mr LandLord has fair shat his pants. I still remember the time Mr LandLord rang me very very frantic cause the bank had stuffed up my pay and he hadn't got his rent. He made the mistake of telling me that his account was now in the negative and his bank was chasing him. Guess who's desperate for money?

So anyway, I have no pity for the guy. I told him he's welcome to come and stare at some big fecking holes for a bit. But if I don't get a proper professional job of fixing it I'm going straight to the Tribunal and telling them this whole story.

What else has been happening round here? We're trying to get management to approve us some nice new laptops. We are spending lots of time in at Queen St still, but we're also out a Penrose and it's a fair pain in the arse to have two computers and two different lots of data. Plus a laptop is very useful for plugging into the routers/switches directly. Especialy when it's 3am in the morning and you can't find a PC to use. Hopefully we'll get some approved.

I'm supposed to be going away this weekend on a "camping/fishing trip"

With 4wds. And beer. And guns. I think someone might even remember to bring a tent and/or fishing rod, but judging from who I've spoken to I'm not sure they're going to be madatory at all :)

Well I think I'm almost all ranted out. I could talk about what I did last night, how all it ever does in Auckland is rain, how I actually managed to ride all the way up the hill tonight without having to do the zig-zag trick or how the stupid Hobart Drivers License place still hasn't sent the stuff I need to get a NZ license, but then I'd fill up even more of this article with blabber. And we don't want that now, do we kiddes?

No Tim, we don't. :-)
