Weekend in Napier (Bucks and Hens Night)

Submitted by TiM on

We were going to drive down to Napier on Thursday night (after we'd put Tui in the Cattery Thursday morning) but we got a phone call from Brendan and Lyn saying they'd be arriving at Auckland Airport on Friday morning. So instead of going down Thursday night, we went out to the airport Friday morning to pick them up to take them down with us. It was so lovely to see them again and to have time to have a proper talk/chat with them, it was all so busy when we saw them last March for our wedding that we didn't really seem to get a chance to talk to them.

Friday afternoon was the perfect drive down, the sun was setting and the trees are all just starting to turn yellow and red so it was a pretty spectacular site to see as we drove. I didn't think to get petrol in Taupo (car showed at least a quarter of a tank) but I was regretting that decision 20 minutes out of Taupo when the light came on. I was totally paranoid we'd run out but thankfully we didn't.

Saturday morning we went and had breakfast while poor Sarah was in the kitchen. She was organising the hens night so had to cook things and get the place all setup for the influx of clucking that was about to happen.

The Bucks night was an interesting afternoon/night. We started out at The Duke for a couple of beers before heading off on "Le Bus" as it was named. We got off to a bad start when we left someone behind. The bus drove for about an hour (beers were provided) and we ended up at the most awesome little golf course ever. It was just a 9 hole course in the middle of absolute nowhere. There were sheep grazing all over the show and the clubhouse was basically a house that people lived in. Oh turns out they do have a website. We split into teams (there was about 20 people) and did 9 holes. It was good fun, though I had the more fun hitting thistles with a 6 iron than I did hitting the golf ball. I can strike the ol' ball if I try though, but I'm totally shit at putting.

After golf we had a BBQ and a few more beers before heading back towards the pubs. The rest of the night went as you'd expect a bucks night to go, except for the groom getting pushed into a urinal and popping his knee. I wish I was joking! That's 4 people in the bridal party that have some sort of foot/leg related injury. The best man's on crutches, the groom popped his knee out and back in on the night, Sarah's got a sore ankle still from the operation and the bride has injured her foot too.

The groom had a quick trip to hospital, a small run-in with the mongrel mob and came back out to join us. He was looking a bit more miserable though.

The hens night Sarah organised went really well by all that were there!

We drove back yesterday (well, Sarah drove most of it as I was feeling a bit hungover) and collected poor Tui from the Cattery this morning. She was hiding up high out of the way but started meowing when she saw me.

Back to work today!

Tim
