What a great weekend we had! I left work early on Friday to go and pick up Mum and Bill who had just jetted into Auckland. The traffic in Auckland really is mental on a Friday afternoon, I knew it could get a bit nuts but it was crazy! I finally made it out to pick them up, collecting them from the side of the road at the airport (where they'd been waiting for 40 minutes) while the security guard lady kept a close eye on me in case I dared to get out of the car.
Once I had them bundled up in the car I drove them home to show them our lovely new house, giving them the quick tour. Then I zipped down to collect my lovely wife from her work.
We had a BBQ in the sun and just relaxed and took it easy, it was fantastic. Lovely to see Mum and Bill again, this time it was a bit more stress free than last time (just after the wedding).
Saturday we got up and as planned went to the French Market in Parnell. I'd been telling Mum and Bill about it before they came over, we love going there every now and then, if not just for the lovely food! Sarah and I were walking around when someone came up behind Sarah and said "Excuse me, watch where you're going!" We both spun around and had to think about who we were seeing, it was Holly, Sarah's sister. We thought she was in Napier.
Turns out my sneaky Mother had rung Sarah's family and convinced them to drive up from Napier for the weekend to join us, for a house warming surprise! Very well done Mother dearest, it was a great surprise. So once there'd been four of us, now there was eight of us! We all had a great time at the market, Holly and Adrian had managed to score a table in the corner of the market so we could sit down and chat. Holly and Adrian bought some dogh biscuits for the dog they were planning to pickup
Once we'd all had enough of the market we headed over to Grey Lynn so the girls could do a bit of shopping while us boys decided the only course of action was to prop up a bar. So we had a quiet pint while we waited for the girls, then drove to the Westmere Butchery to get some really tasty meats for a big tasty Saturday Night BBQ!
Some super tasty foods acquired, we all headed back home and slowly got everything setup. We dragged the table from the dining room to the deck (about a 4 metre drag!) and sat around the table in the afternoon sun, having a few drinks, lots of nibbles and listening to the next door neighbours who seem to have just moved in provide us with the music. It was like they'd stolen Sarah's iPod the music was so similar to hers!
We had another great night, just relaxing watching the sun go down, before moving inside so as not to get eaten by all the bugs and critters, plus once the sun goes down it gets kinda cold.
Finally it was time to put everyone to bed, thankfully we've got heaps of space now so that wasn't a problem. The spare bedroom is full of junk, but we still found room for 4 extra people.
Sunday breakfast was lovely, then we said goodbye to the Napierites as they headed off. Sarah followed them to do a bit of shopping, then in the afternoon we just relaxed again and had a bite to eat.
Monday morning, having come all too quickly I packed up Bill and Sallee and took them back out to the airport.
I got a text from them once they'd made it to Australia, they'd accidentally left their keys in the spare room! Whoopsie, never mind I've posted
All in all a really great weekend. The weather was kind to us, we had a great surprise and I think everyone had a really good time.
Last night I went out to pick up my empty beer bottles I scored off TradeMe, as well as picked up the new fire guard that Sarah scored for $1! $1 for a brand new, heavy fire guard. What a bargain!
And finally, Tui the mog hasn't caught anymore birds since we put a second bell on her. Hopefully this is because she makes enough noise now and not because all the cute birdies are dead.
