So sit down as you prepare to read this... I was sunny and lovely both days here in London this weekend. That's right. No rain, no clouds, no miserable crap. It was fantastic from Saturday morning right through until Sunday evening. I'm still getting over the shock.
Saturday morning we slept in until about lunchtime, I'm not so sure that I deserved to but there's no doubt that Sarah did after her first week out earning the money. We decided that we should do something with our especially because of how sunny and nice it was.
I booked us on the London Eye, we'd heard how bad the queues were to get tickets etc so I though that booking us in on the good ol' Internet might be the way to go. That being done, we left the house and jumped on a tube towards town.
We got off at Green Park and walked for about 10 minutes and there it was, Buckingham Palace! There were of course about a trillion people around, taking photos and staring and all that stuff. The exact sort of stuff that we were doing too. I watched the guards for about 5 minutes, flapping my arms to see if I could get one of them to move, but they're too good at just standing there.
After a few happy photos we left and walked towards the Eye, through a really nice park (I think St. James Park) with lots of birds, people, squirrels and grass. We made it to Westminster Bridge which we managed to cross over, though it seemed like there were too many people on it, then down towards the Eye.
Once we got to the Eye I lined up in the "Collect Tickets" line, only to realise there were a couple of computer machines that were for collecting web ordered tickets. All I had to do was put my Credit Card in and it knew what I'd ordered and spat out two tickets. I thought I'd done really well at queue avoidance, but the queue isn't for the tickets so much as it is to get on it! There's a huge line of people all waiting to ride on the Eye, tickets in hand. It takes about 30 minutes from when you line up to when you actually get shuffled into one of the little capsules that takes you around.
Once you're on though, it's all worth it! We had such a nice day, the view was perfect. We were stuck in with a bunch of other people but everyone moved around during "the flight" (they call a ride on the Eye a flight) so we got to see out at all angles. It's really impressive, not only the Eye itself but the view you get from the top is fantastic.
All too quickly it was over and we were getting out of our capsule, so that security could quickly go in with mirrors on a stick and bomb sniffing devices, a 30 second check before the next lot of people got on. Welcome to London.
We had a bit of a lie on the grass for a while then walked towards Trafalgar Square, it's safe to say that it seems a lot different that I remember it when I was 10. But I was 10 so that probably accounts for that. No where near the number of pigeons that I recall though!
We went and got a bite to eat, then thought about going to the movies and decided better of it, deciding instead to head home to bed.
Sunday we did the same sort of thing, slept in for a while, then headed out to Richmond for a couple of hours. We tried to find a Fish and Chip shop that was open, but that seems the impossible task. I walked around for 30 minutes before finally finding a Fish and Chip shop, only they were so trendy that they didn't do takeaways. Damnit. We walked to the pub to get something to eat there, but they'd stopped serving food! Frustrated we ended up coming back home.
Once home I went out the back and picked another massive heap of BlackBerries, there's so many of them! I was going to cook a pie but I got too lazy, I'm going to do one tonight instead.
This morning I went off to my job interview, but I'll write more about that in my next story.
