Floop. That was the sound of my enthusiasm when I went looking for it this morning. It’s very depressing to be back in Wellington and back at work, back in my little apartment and back to the working life. Hell it’s still the same room even, which I don’t mind at all. At least they seem to have cleaned the bathroom this time, there is no trace of the uber stink that used to live in there. Which I didn’t cause in case you don’t remember that article!
We had a great time in Napier. We did lots and lots of pretty much nothing. Kelly and Anisa came down for 4-5 days and the whole time they were with us the weather was shocking. Cold, wet and windy. Like the Jimmy Barnes concert on New Years Eve, though we didn’t really let the weather get us down too much. I was pretty miffed that he couldn’t even be bothered to do a countdown. Even after he missed it totally a few of us started to chant “Count Down! Count Down!” but he didn’t do one. The show was excellent otherwise though even though we had to keep our rain jackets on for most of the time.
We also did a wine trail tour thing. Not really all that exciting for me because I still really don’t like wine at all. While we were our for dinner one night Sarah’s Dad opened a bottle of cheap wine called “Fat Cat” I tried it and it didn’t taste to bad. Peter tried it and groaned in disgust. The rest of the bottle was left at the restaurant. Tasted like wine to me. But yes the wine trail was good fun regardless, the girls had a great time tasting all the wines, plus at once of the wineries there we all sorts of tasty things for me to nibble on.
Another day (Anisa and Kelly had left by this stage so it was about 30 degrees all day) we drove for an hour to get to this really remote beach. The most amazing thing about the beach was the fact it was covered with beetles. They were everywhere, if you lay down you were guaranteed to have a small army of them crawling on you within a minute.
The surf was crap (good thing we hadn’t brought the surfboard) but we still had a bit of a splash around on the boogy boards we’d bought with us. The sun was beating down all day so I covered myself in sunscreen about 4 times. Turns out I forgot my eyelids though, one of them is still quite sore! Bugger.
There’s a big fuss at the moment about a Kiwi show being used to fill Australian Quotes. I couldn’t give a rat about all that crap, but that series at the centre of the snooze feast is called Outrageous Fortune and it is fantastic. It’s funny, has interesting characters and an excellent story line. Mother if they don’t end up playing it on TV over there I’ll send you over the DVD set because I know you’ll love it to bits.
Sarah and I are playing Scrabble online now to pass the time… It’s good fun though not quite the same thing as actually being there in person to throw letters at each other.
Hope everyone’s well and coping with being back at work.
Tim
