Pizza Oven Lovin'

Submitted by TiM on

Saturday morning we all got up bright and early to light the Pizza Oven up. I'd been over to the next door neighbours the night before just to let him know we'd be lighting it (so he wouldn't put out washing and get all smoked out) and he gave me the quick run down on how to get it going. The key he said was to get it lit up early in the morning to give it plenty of time to get the heat pumping.

Once we'd gotten it going we all went out for breakfast, then off to visit friends of Sarah's parents just to say a quick hello. On the way back we stopped in at The Warehouse to buy some tools with which to fashion a Pizza Oven Scooper thing. This is what a professional one looks like, this is what ours looked like. That's right, it's a little kiddies sand shovel stuck through a large aluminium baking tray. It worked a treat though.

Sarah and her mum spent time in the kitchen on Saturday afternoon making the home made pizza dough and by the time the guests arrived everything was in readiness for the best pizza ever! I fired up our BBQ that we got for $50 and away we went!

Well, we didn't need the BBQ because the pizza that came out of the oven were just perfect. Everyone made their "perfect" pizza from the ingredients on the table, Sarah's dad was the oven operator extraordinaire and the pizzas were some of the nicest I've ever had. The 10 odd hours of fluffing around with the pizza oven were well worth it in the end!

After that, everyone crowded around for some SingStar fun and games. It's amazing what people will do after a few drinks, SingStar was lots of fun for everyone.

So, a good night! The stress that the pizza might not turn out wasn't warranted at all. We were also very stoked with our $50 BBQ, Peter and I had been over the night before to pick it up and it was filthy but 30 minutes with the oven cleaner and some water soon had it looking like new.

Today Sarah's got the day off so I too have taken the day off. 3rd long weekend in a row!
