Bye Bye Sky

Submitted by TiM on

After many years, we're turning off our Sky connections. We pay them ~$100 a month and really, for what? The box that allows us to play/record/rewind TV is handy, but we've replaced that with a box that can do the same with the public free TV service. Yesterday had had two guys (Rob&Roy) turn up and put up a UHF Antenna for us, so that we can get Freeview. They had to fiddle around a bit to get it working, apparently the cables in the house are old and clunky and don't work that well. But now we have a...

Frosts

Submitted by TiM on

We've had quite a few frosts here the last few mornings. Beth loves them, can't wait to get into her big puffy jacket so she can go outside and walk around making footprints. She was very excited yesterday when we went out, walked around and could see the footprints she'd made in the frost. She also seems to understand that "When the sun comes out the frost goes away!"
Another weekend of people being sick, we're really not having a good run at the moment. I was crook on the Friday, I'd stayed home anyway because I usually work from home on a Friday, but I worked for about an hour before realising that I wasn't feeling any better then giving up. Sarah spent most of the weekend in bed with a crook tummy too, though we did go out to Havelock North to Birdwoods for a couple of hours...

Don't Forget Your Darlings

Submitted by TiM on

I hope Beth never loses Princess and Moon. I think I've written about who they are before, a green moon thing and a little princess face. They're her bedtime friends. Every night before she goes to sleep she wants her friends next to her. In the morning when I go and get her up, sometimes I hop into bed with her and we pretend to sleep. I am usually given Moon for a pillow, Beth has Princess. After we've "had a sleep" for about 12 seconds, we have to get up. And she always says to me in a loud for "Don't forget your darling!". Because, combined, they are both her darlings. I'm not 100% sure how it came about, but I think it's because I always call Beth "Darling" and she's just transferred that to her friends. Every morning it makes me laugh when she tells me "Don't forget...

New Glasses

Submitted by TiM on

I tried to take Beth to the carwash again on Saturday. Since we tried to go last time, she's been talking about it a lot. Even posing for a photo in front of it a week or so ago. Lots of excitement, talking about it a lot, "Daddy I want to go with you to the carwash etc". But when it came to crunch time she didn't want to go in again (pretty much as expected). Alas.
She was a bit crook last week, she had to stay home on Jenny's on Thursday. Even now she's still a bit rough around the edges, she kept complaining last night about sore legs, or that her legs weren't working and other odd complaints.
Theo is here on the floor having his milk, he's a happy chappy. He had a rash last week which would flare up and down. Sarah took him to...

Upstairs Carpet

Submitted by TiM on

Monday was a glorious day, we got carpet upstairs! Well in fact it wasn't really finished until Tuesday, was a big job for them apparently. It's so nice upstairs now, with the painting we've been doing up there and now nice carpet to walk around on, upstairs finally. Took us a few hours on Sunday to get the spare room upstairs all cleaned up and ready, we'd paid for the "they move the furntiture for you" option, but we still had to make sure it was only easy-to-move things like the bed and drawers etc. Not all the fiddly little stuff.
Now the only problem is that we have no doors, or cupboard doors. Because everything when it was installed assumed no carpet. (WHY?) Hopefully Adrian can find some time in his busy schedule to come over with his saw and cut everything. It's going to be a mission, very...

Can We Still Be Best Friends?

Submitted by TiM on

I got crabby with Beth about something last Sunday. I can't even remember what it was. She was so upset and came running to me "Daddy... *sob* can we still *sob* be *sob* best friends?". Oh dear, best if I don't scar my child for life. I told her we'd always be best friends and she didn't have to worry about that. NOW GO TO SLEEP. Or something along those lines, I can't quite recall.
Everyone is doing really well. Beth gets more and more affectionate each day which is really nice, she's always giving us hugs or cuddles or little random things like that. Poor ol' chops is having a rough day today, he did six poos today. SIX! It's his own fault, he loves his breakfast so much. He's eating every morning half a weetbix and half a banana. This is after 200ml of formula. He wolfs it...

Theo Starts Daycare

Submitted by TiM on

Theo had his first day at daycare today. I'm not 100% sure how it went, when I saw Sarah at lunchtime Theo hadn't slept yet which is quite unlike him (he loves his 9-9:30am sleep in the morning.) Sarah and I went out to the local motorbike shop to look at a new bike helmet. The one I looked at had built in sunglasses, very awesome. It was $500 though, which isn't very awesome. Haven't made a decision yet, will test Sarah's old helmet when I get home and maybe use that. My helmet is fine bit a bit too big.
Anyway so yes, Chops! His first day at daycare. I hope he had a good day, I hope Beth looked after him. I'm sure she did, she's usually very good with him unless he wants to play with, well, pretty much anything she owns then she gets all "I...

Anzac Weekend in Akitio

Submitted by TiM on

We spent the weekend down at Akitio, which was really nice. We left on Friday afternoon about 5pm. We made it all the way to Hastings (i.e. we drove for 5 minutes) before Theo decided to poo his pants in a big, major way. So a quick stop into a petrol station to change him and we were off again. They both handled the trip to Dannevirke pretty well, that's where we stayed the night with Wendy and Rex. Amy came with Kaden and Maddie, straight away Beth took a shine to Maddie and just followed her around everywhere. It helped a lot that Maddie put on the Wiggles and danced around the lounge with her, plus she stayed the night in the same room as Beth. When I went to get Beth up the next morning she was in tears, I asked her what was wrong. Through a sobbing...

Funny Voice and the Moon Telescope

Submitted by TiM on

Beth's voice is all squeeky. It's really funny, I guess we should try to record it while she still has it. It's just a cold she's got that's made her sound funny, she's all raspy. Theo has the same cold, when I got him out of bed this morning his face was covered with snot and he was very upset by the whole thing. He's just super, super crabby until he's had his bottle of milk then he's semi-happy. He's not fully happy until he's had a bowl of weetbix, or rice bubbles, or both mushed up, fed to him. Then he chills out for a while before ramping up the crab levels again because by that stage he's been awake for a couple of hours and is ready to go back to bed again.

Beth is obsessed by the moon at the moment. Partially helped by the new toy...

Wub Wub Wub Washing Machine

Submitted by TiM on

Washing Machine is Beth's new favourite game to play. Sarah cut a hole in a cardboard box on Friday and now you pick up the items of clothing, decide if "Phew! These really stink" or "No this one's Ok" and put them in the washing machine based on assessment. Then the washing machine is activated (shook around while saying wub wub wub for about 10 seconds) and the clothes are then clean. Or something like that, I'm not 100% sure.
Theo's new favourite game is crawling everywhere. His crawl has gotten a lot better since his first few days, where basically the arms did all the works and the legs just got dragged along for the ride. Still not perfect, but a lot better. He's eating like a champion now, in the morning he wants a bottle of milk as soon as he's awake, but once he sees Beth starting...
