Here we are, 31st December! We've had a great few days since Christmas Day, pretty much all spent at home. I've tried to get on top of some of the gardening with some success, the kids have spent hours and hours in the pool. Mostly managing to avoid getting sunburnt too, even though the sun has been beating down and there's no cover when swimming! It's just sun sun sun.
Anyway let's skip back to Christmas day
The kids were all excited (of course) on Christmas Eve and left out letters, carrots for the Reindeer, Milk and Cookies for Santa. When they woke up in the morning the carrots had been munched and Santa had gulped his treats. Santa had left them lots of little presents in their stockings, Mummy and Daddy left Theo a brand new bike (with gears!) and for Beth a $100 voucher so she could go shopping at Farmers, something she loves. They also got lots of books between them.
I got a Robotic Vacuum Cleaner that we have nicknamed Rhubarb. Rhubarb is quite amazing and zooms around the house vacuuming and floors and also mopping them too, cleaning up all the dirt and dog fluff that Biscuit likes to leave behind. Biscuit doesn't seem too scared of it either, I mean he doesn't love it but he's not running to hide like he does when the Dyson comes out, he more just gives it a "Piss off please" sideways glance.
Once all our presents were unwrapped, we packed everything up and headed over to Peter and Mary's for the day. We had a great time there, the kids spent time in the pool there and also just playing and having fun. We had a WOOP box for Christmas that Holly, Mary and Sarah cooked for everyone. We were lucky, Sarah was reading later that night when we got home about how many people got a WOOP box that was small, or had mouldly stuff in it, or both. Enough that the complaints made the paper, can't be a good look for WOOP.
We've been for a few rides on Theo's new bike, he loves it. He loves the gears, he still doesn't properly GET what gear to be in when, he just likes putting up to gear 7 and riding hard and going fast. But he always is in that gear if I don't remind me to change down to the easier gears when slowing down or going up a hill. Good thing of course about where we live is that there's hardly and hills, so it's not a big problem.
We tried to go out to Birdwoods a few days ago for lunch, but it was packed and wouldn't take a booking so we ended up going to Cafe no 5 instead. Had a decent meal there, went out to Farmers to see what Beth might want to buy. In the end the only thing she wanted was a Cluedo Set "Who broke the Toy" which we played a few games off and she seemed to enjoy, but it hasn't been played since so who knows.
Biscuit has been a little escape artist these holidays. First of all he's just wandered off a few times when the loungeroom door is open and we're all home, if we're not in the room suddenly we'll go in there and he's gone, we'll find him down the street somewhere. Or yesterday Colin from over the road brought him back to us. Today when we were at Birdwoods we got a call from Chris and Yonna next door, Biscuit had climbed up the pile of wood in the area he's currently staying in (due to the pool renno) and gone to visit them instead. Little turd. Anyway he's still around, smelling it up as usual.
Went to Birdwoods today, as mentioned, took Mary too. Sarah was clever and booked us yesterday, so that worked out well. Had a great time out there, the icecream shop was open. The icecreams came in a tub with a flake in them, Theo looked at the flake going in and asked "Why is there meat in the Icecream?". Poor fella, it was so funny. I can see WHY he thought that, Sarah had just had a beef brisket and the flake was the same sort of colour and same jaggedly angles of a bit of beef brisket. Even the icecream lady had to stifle a major chuckle.
Day after Boxing day we went into town to see Sing 2. I have quite enjoyed the original Sing movie the few times it's been on and the kids have watched it. I went into Sing 2 thinking it'd be the same sort of thing, but holy hell I really really enjoyed it. All the characters were explained in more detail, the storyline while stupid was enjoyable and it had a bunch of silly jokes in it that were legit funny and made me laugh out loud. All 4 of us really enjoyed it, it was a great day out at the movies. Even in these shitty Covid times.
All of NZ is pissed at this DJ who came into the country and went clubbing etc on the last few days before he got back his last "Negative" test. Which when it came back was positive but he'd already been out clubbing and discoing and whatever else Drum and Bass people do. (I sound old and crabby there huh?) - Anyway he's got Omicron so of couse that's probably game over NZ. At least there won't be any mass gatherings happening anytime soon like tonight for example on New Year's Eve.
I'm sitting on the back steps watching the kids swim in the pool at the moment, they really love the pool which is great. I mean not that I didn't think they would, but they REALLY love it. Beth will stop playing her iPad to get in the pool, there's not much else that she ever wants to do that trumps playing games on her iPad but swimming in the pool is one of them. I hope it keeps up.
There's still so much to do re: The Pool though. Here's what it looks like at the moment, there's a Red Carpet we got off Facebook from one of our neighbours for free, it's to stop the kids trotting in al the dirt. Seems to work and I get to make a "Roll out the Red Carpet" joke everytime to the amusement of exactly 1 person (myself)
Ok well I guess that's it for 2021. Still can't quite believe we got the pool in and going for Christmas, but we did. Here's to 2022, let's hope it sucks a bit less with COVID and we get to go to Melbourne for Sarah's 40th as planned (and booked!) Here's hoping it doesn't send us broke!!
