Well I've settled in OK into my new room. Both my flatmates (Kate and Natalie) seem really nice. Admittedly my matress thingy could be a lot more comfortable, but like I said yesterday, it'll do until I get a real bed.
I failed yesterday to find out exaclty where the Cats sail, so I thought today I'd find out for sure...
Turns out they sail at Takapuna Beach, which is over on the other side, over the Habour Bridge. I found the right bus to catch, and went over there. After a look around the local Takapuna market (They have markets all over the show here) I wandered down to the beach. There!!
Exactly what I was looking for. Out on the water was a whole fleet (well, about 8-10) Hobie 16's. Turns out the 18's aren't popular over here at all, and I've been told that there's probably only about 5-10 on the whole North Island. Oh well. The Sailing club itself seems pretty cool, the few people I meet were all nice. Any club with a bar has to be OK.
I'm going back next Sunday to do some Rescue boat work. I'll have to do that until my wetsuit gets shipped over with all my other stuff. They were all pretty keen sailors too. It was blowing a steady 25-30 knots, but the racing was still on. There were a few people on the beach, but most were out there!
Not sure what I'll do with the rest of the day, probably just wander around and look at all the shops. Everything is open here on a Sunday, hard to get used to after being in Hobart for years.
Well, time to go. Back to work tomorrow!!
