Finally got the Digger guy to turn up on Friday. He's been really hard to pin down to coming over and actually doing the work - I'd have usually given up long before and gotten someone else, but we had the voucher we won back at Casino Night (the same night I caught Chicken Pox) to use, so I had to keep pestering him. Anyway he turned up and got halfway through removing the walnut stump before he also managed to dig up the power running between the house and the pump. Two things though: The pump still works, so the cable wasn't actually broken and two, it wasn't his fault. It's those dodgy bastards that did a lot of the Electrical work when we got the kitchen renovation done. We're always finding stuff that's broken/doesn't work or is downright dangerous. The digger guy said how high the cable was buried was criminal! Anyway, the stumps are removed now. It was pretty neat having a big digger in the back digging things up, the kids were very excited by the whole experience. Even Biscuit thought it was great, but mostly because the digger man had a dog in the cab of his truck and Biscuit spent half his time looking at the other dog, ready to pounce!
So I've just finished 6 days off! Last Thursday was my unpaid day off, Friday was HB Anniversary Day, then 2 days for the weekend, Monday was Labour Day and Tuesday was this week's unpaid day off. Nice! I mean I'd much rather not have unpaid days off, but at least if I have to then having them butted up like that works really well. Next week I might take Friday and then Monday off again.
On Friday we took the kids to see Seussical the Musical at the local theatre. It was really well done, a very good show that I actually quite enjoyed. I think the kids liked it too, though they haven't spoken about it much since so who knows? I think it was a little bit long for Theo, he was getting quite bored towards the end and it had lots of works and singing so it would have been hard for him to follow along with exactly what was going on. But it was still very entertaining, we thought maybe one of them might love it and want to find out about doing acting, but I don't think so.
Good thing they both love Tennis though! I took Theo up for a trial lesson last weekend and like his Sister, he was off and away without looking back. Didn't even stop to ask for a snack, so that's how you know he was really enjoying it! There was no Tennis over the long weekend, so it remains to be seen if he'll enjoy it as much when he goes this weekend. I think he will though.
Took Biscuit to the vet on my Thursday day off, they said he was in a good health but perhaps just a little bit flabby! Oh no! I thought while Reggie was here they were running around all day every day, so I used to give Biscuit quite a bit of extra food each day while Reggie was here. I guess he wasn't burning off as much energy as I thought he was though, because yea he put a bit of weight on. He's otherwise fine though, I've started taking him back out running with me, we did 10km on Saturday and while he was stuffed at the end of it, he did it. We did stop halfway through so he could have a little lie down in the river to cool off because it was quite hot. While at the vet I also got them to clip his nails, squeeze his butt to stop him dragging it all the time, and they gave him a worming tablet too. I don't know if he needed it or not, but it's been a while so it might as well have it.
Sarah bought the kids a "Blob" which is currently on the front lawn. It's just a giant waterbed thing really, plus it has another little bit you connect the hose to and it shoots water out. The kids seem to love it anyway, they like to bounce around on it in the nude. Oh speaking of the Ring caught the funniest video of Theo the other morning. He woke up, opened the front door, make sure no one was around (not realising the ring doorbell was recording him), pulled down his pants and shuffled over to the lawn and peed on it. Very funny, I showed him later and he was a bit sheepish about it!
Watched the AFL on Saturday night, was actually pretty sure the Cats were going to rack it in against the Richard Tigers but alas, I was very, very wrong. We did well in the first half but the second half we just shat on the floor. It was very disappointing! Oh well, there's always next year, it was fun to watch even if it was frustrating.
Found out we've been paying "double rates" since we moved into our house, turns out because the previous owners had a Granny Flat on the back they'd been paying double for the rubbish etc. But when the flat was removed, the rates bill wasn't fixed up! So I got politely crabby with them and they agreed to a refund for the last couple of years. Not perfect, but it will basically pay our rates bill for the year and the bill will be less going forward, so that's good. Stupid rates, I hate them so much.
Sold all the pavers I've been pulling up, good to seem them gone. Still a few things to do out the back before it's ready to be bulldozed, but it's not far from being ready. Horray.
That'll do.
Tim
