Lockdown Day: Errr Who Can Remember?

Submitted by TiM on

It's Friday morning, 6:25am and of course Beth's already awake.  The girl just doesn't sleep, or at least, does not sleep in.  Unless it's an actual School Day and I need them to get up.  Then all bets are off.  Anyway, it's Day Mumble of Lockdown Number 2.  Or 3 or whatever lockdown number it is.  I had my Vaccination at 3pm yesterday.  At 3:35pm Sarah said to me "Aren't you supposed to be having your Vaccine today?"  Oh fuck, yes, yes I am.  Jumped in the car and flew out to the Drive Thru Vaccination clinic.  Huge line of cars, turns out the booking system is just a front for nothing really, they don't check you have a booking when you get there.  They sure didn't care I was 40 minutes late.  So yea, there were heaps of other people in front of me, took about 2 hours to finally get to the stabbing station and get stabbed.  Doesn't matter it eventually happened so now I am 1st Stab In Vaccinated, just need to wait my 6 weeks until the 2nd Stabbing now.  Glad I got it, 68 new cases in the community yesterday (Auckland) and it doesn't look like it's got much chance of slowing down either, lockdown's all great but it seems Delta is very tricky not at all like the first variant we locked down for.

Other than that - not a lot else has been happening.  The kids have had a few video calls with their school this week, Beth's teacher seems to have major technical struggles while Theo's video calls always go off without a hitch.  Sarah made Paper Planes with Theo on Wednesday afternoon after watching a Nano Girl video and the planes were great!  Sarah took a video and it featured in Nano Girl's next video with everyone.

Work's good, busy.  We got the second port on our ONT at home turned on, so now I have a direct Ethernet Link from home into the Lab at work for BNG Testing.  Testing is going good.  And last night I added another 10G of capacity to our Auckland Megaport service.  So that was good, just need the backhaul to use it all properly now.

On the weekend we did some gardening and not a lot else.  We rang Granny for her Birthday on Monday, waved some ballons around at her we had left over from Theo's 6th Birthday.  I've been taking Biscuit for his usual nightly walks, we usually do 5-6km over about an hour and a bit.  It's been quite spooky the last few nights, there's just no people around.  You don't bump into anyone and I just have this strange feeling, so I'm always feeling like someone is watching me.  This is what you get for walking on paths in the pitch black of night.  I take my uber bright torch and of couse I've got Biscuit for company.  Not that I think he'd defend me, but he'd probably at least notice if someone else was near us.  All he wants to do is chase Nasty Pasties (Rabbits) though, but he's never come close to catching one.

I took this Astrophotography Mode photo with my phone the other night, set it up on a little Gorilla Pod that Peter and Mary got me for my birthday.

Turned out quite well really, I like the (tiny little) animation it makes of the Stars moving too.

That's it really.  I ordered some Brave Beer last night, it should get delivered today.  I've got homebrew, but it's never as good as Brave and I like to try and support them a little bit during lockdown, it's businesses like that who rely on foot traffic and pubs/bars being open that really suffer during lockdown.  Much like poor Vinci's Pizza and my favourite Curry shop etc etc.  I can't even put an order in with them though, they have to be closed because they're not essential.  SAYS WHO.  Curry should be law.

I realised last night that Theo doesn't ask for Big Bae to be "Nice and Flat" anymore.  Big Bae doesn't really feature that much anymore, he still drags him around here and there but it's almost routine now, not the Crux he absoutely used to be.  I do love that even though we all know now Cornflakes are called Cornflakes, we all still call them FlakeCorns and we're all fine with that.
