Had a good weekend, it was nice and sunny both days. Saturday morning took Theo to swimming, he was great again. He's so keen, loves to listen, does what he's told, tries really hard. His googles annoyed him a few times and that upset him, but once I tightened them back up again he was super happy. His kicking styles leaves a lot to be desired, but Jill told us that for their age all children do a really silly, totally useless kick. In fact one of the exercises this week was to hold their legs and kick them properly for them. Anyway, we had a great day swimming, Theo was just great again.
After swimming we did a bit of work outside, Sarah took Theo to the supermarket while Beth and I did some work outside, had a play, she helped a bit with the lawnmowing. I did a little 6km run, I am thinking of maybe going in the Napier Marathon, I think maybe I mentioned this in a previous post. It was pretty hard, certainly harder than I thought it would be. Seems that while bike riding is all well and good, it doesn't really work on the same muscles as you need for jogging.
Then I took the kids for a drive out to Hastings to fill up my beer flagons, then on the way back got the kids an icecream each. Cooked them dinner, Sarah went out with some of her girlfriends, I stayed home and drank my freshly purchased beer and watched what can only be described as the worst movie ever, called Mother! It got decent reviews, but I don't know why, it really really annoyed me. Stupid movie.
Sunday we got up and I took the kids for a walk around JTown, then Sarah rang Holly and we decided we'd go for a walk up Sugarloaf! I didn't think Theo would make it all the way, but both Beth and Theo did a great job. A little bit of moaning from Theo and we had to carry him some of the way, but we all made it to the top of the hill with minimal grizzling. Here's a video of the kids at the top.
Once we descended back down we stopped into Church Road for a beer and a platter, while the kids continued to run around and play outside. Well Theo mostly sat with us and ate. Once we left there it was back home and everyone had a sleep for a couple of hours, then we went to the Taradale Club with Peter and Mary (and the Mooneys) for dinner. It was very quiet, but the all-you-can-eat buffet was pretty good really. So that was nice!
Friday the replacement Big Bae arrived. Theo was given it and noticed that it was a bit cleaner and the label had writing on it, but Sarah just told him she'd washed it and he was happy with that. So he's been carrying BBv2 around all weekend, happy as larry. There was a near miss on Saturday morning, Beth went into the laundry and saw BBv1 in the washing machine. "Is there TWO Big Baes?" she asked. I told her hahaha no of course not and while she wasn't looking quickly swapped the BB from the washing machine with one of the pillow cases with the same pattern on it. I showed her the "mistake" she'd made and she bought it, but she did say it was odd because she'd definitely noticed a pattern on the thing in the machine that the pillowcase didn't have.
I think Theo's little mind would shatter if he knew there was two BB's, so we've hidden BBv1 away upstairs where it won't be noticed or found (hopefully!)
I bought a couple of cheap Chinese webcams a few weeks ago. They are all chinese and locked to a Chinese server, but I knew it was possible to put new, opensource custom firmware on them, bypassing all the Chinese stuff. So I had a play with those on Friday night and they work really well! They detect motion and send you an email with the photos of the motion it saw, they have night mode so you can watch the kids while they're sleeping. They're Wifi connected, so all they need is power which is USB power. They're quite neat and they were only ~$45NZ each, shipped. I'll probably get a couple more to monitor the sheds! That's the only thing, of course, I don't want to leave webcams at home powered up all the time, but they'll be great when we go away to add a bit of extra security.
