Outdoor Work Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

Busy weekend, did lots of work out in the Garden.  Saturday morning Pancakes this week were ones you make by putting water in the plastic bottle and then shaking like mad.  Beth and Theo thought this was a lot of fun, I had to make sure the lid was super screwed on so it didn't leak.  They enjoyed the new pancakes, though they were really much more like what I'd call a piklet, they bubbled when you put them on the frying pan, so they obviously had self raising flour in them.  Still, very tasty even if I didn't know about the syrup and told Beth "No no the honey in the bottle is the syrup".  She was suspicious I was lying, but I flat out didn't know we had Maple Syrup in the cupboard.  They were still tasty, regardless.

After breakfast I took Theo swimming, which he was a little champion at again, as usual.  He loves being under the water, he thinks the funniest thing now is to be pushed under the water so he can grab a toy.   He used to hate the thought of doing that, now he's off trying to swim before he's even supposed to be.  I have to keep pulling him aside and saying "Listen to Jilly"

Once back from Swimming, Sarah went to a Baby Shower so I spent the afternoon outside with the kids doing various things around the garden, while Beth and Theo spend most of the time playing on their bikes.  For Beth it was spending time on her proper pedal bike, while for Theo he just flies around the place on his electric motorbike having a blast.  I spent most of the time with the chainsaw cutting off a lot of branches from the big Feijoa tree in the backyard.  It just gets bigger and bigger, so this year it got a mega trim.  Branches everywhere, there'll be a bit of firewood too once it dries out.  I wonder how well it burns?

Once Sarah was back from the baby shower I drove down to Mitre10 to spend some of our Rewards Points.  I bought a new cordless Hedge Trimmer, something we've needed for a while.  I used to borrow Peter Chat's every now and then, last time I borrowed it I accidentally cut my extension cord so I had to go and buy a new one.  Cordless is much better.  I spent ages trying to decide which to buy, the brand name Makita that was half as powerful, or the never-heard-of-them Ego brand that was much better bang for buck.  In the end I went with the Ego and reviews online showed I made a good choice.

Sunday it was time to FIRE UP the Ego and it was great, it just powered thorough everything I threw at it with no problems at all.  The front hedges, the hedges on the driveway, the hedges out around the pool.   Then Adrian very kindly lent me his trailer and I spent an hour loading up all the Feijoa cutoffs onto it.  It took ages, I had to keep getting in the trailer to jump on it all, there was so much stuff.  But I got it all in eventually.  Theo was in bed by this time, he was feeling a bit tired and crabby after playing with Joseph and Isla.  Looks like he has (or had) a cold.  So he needed a sleep.

I took Beth up to the rubbish dump with me to drop off all the Greenwaste.  What a mess that was, it took forever because unloading the greenwaste itself took 15 minutes, then the EFTPOS was broken so the lady had to issue everyone with invoices.  Which took about 5 minutes per person.  So an hour and a half later we got home, but Beth had icecream from the shop so she didn't mind.  Theo woke up not long after I got back and the kids all played outside for a while having a great time while Sarah and I spent a bit more time cleaning up all the branches/hedges etc.

So today I'm super knackered, all my muscles hurt.  Ugh.  But things look a lot better around the property, so that's good.
