Cough Cough Weekend Away

Submitted by TiM on

Had a nice weekend away at Millar Road, specifically Haumoana House.  We had such a great time, we arrived Friday afternoon.  I'd actually had the day off work because I had this really freakin' annoying cough that was hurting and making me feel like utter shit.  So I spent the day mostly resting up, doing a bit of cleaning around the house.  I went to the Dr that morning and he gave me some steroids to help get over the cough.  Sarah won't stop telling me what a drama queen I am about it.  Of course if I hadn't gone then spent all weekend in bed, I'd have been given grief for that too, so I can't win! When I was telling Beth I wasn't feeling very well on Friday morning she make me the most lovely little picture, a duck with rainbow feathers and a huge smile.  I love it so much, have to get it laminated.

Once we were off we drove over to the house, checked in and got comfy, then drove to Brave to fill up my flagons with some tasty beer for the weekend.  Then we did a bit of shopping at New World, then headed back to the house.  After a few drinks and some relaxing, we went to Elephant Hill for a lovely dinner.  So nice.  I had Wagu, followed by Wagu.  Man it was good.  I was especially impressed that they had Tigermilk available, seeing as I was of course the freak who doesn't like wine.

Next morning we got up and went for a lovely little bike ride, down along the drive, out to Clifton for lunch at Hygge, the mostly annoyingly named cafe in the world.  Had a nice lunch, had a beer, then rode back along the beach for a quiet pint at Gannets pub.  The coolest little pub in Napier, it's like Pop's old shack, but it's also a bar.  Fantastic.

Then we went home, Adrian and I zipped into town to get some stuff for my Chromecast so we could watch the Big Games (Aussie vs England, NZ vs Ireland) on the TV that night.  Went into Havelock North, had a few drinks at Piku in it's amazing new location.  I freakin' love Piku.  Then we got some curry and headed back home and strapped ourselves in for the big games.  I was a bit nervous because I was in charge of making sure the Internet Streaming worked properly for the rugby matches (well, Spark were too) but it all worked perfectly.  Australia knocked out, then NZ were through.  1:30am we got to bed, because that's when the game finished!

Next day we had to pack up and go home, sadness.  We headed off, had a (very bland) breakfast in Havelock North and headed home to see the kiddies, who had had a great time with Peter and Mary.

Biscuit got the chop during the week.  He seems fine, we got him a large cone in case he going to chew at his stitches, but he's been fine, really good in fact.  Seems to be recovering well, poor fella.

So we had a great weekend, thanks for that Peter and Mary! (It was our Christmas 2018 present from them)

Tim
