Danniverke Party, Tauranga, Sick Kids

Submitted by TiM on

We drove back from Tauranga on Wednesday afternoon.  We went out for drinks and dinner with the Tauranga crew on the Tuesday night and had the best intentions of getting up early on Wednesday to go walk up the Mount, but Greg messaged me at 5:30am to say he'd had zero sleep and didn't want to.  So we canned that and instead just met up for breakfast (I went for a quick early morning walk myself) at the same cafe we'd been at the day before.  It served very good bacon and eggs.  Then we drove into MCY and did our meetings etc, before heading out of town.  I had a minor panic that I'd lost/forgotten my sunglasses somewhere, but after a 3rd search of my backpack I found them. Doh.  We listened to quite a lot of Tool on the way back, Kent's always banging on about them and it was quite good actually, might be a new fan.

Played Chess with the kids on Friday night.  Both of them seem to have learnt the rules very well, I'm not exactly sure how.  Theo didn't know the "pawn to the end can be any piece you want it to be though" and was quite upset when I used it on him! I had to though, I'd been a bit easy on him in the first half of the game but he really kept making quite good moves so I got a bit desperate to wind it up for bedtime.  Glad that he enjoys it though, will have to play some more with him.

Saturday was swimming in the morning and then we all packed up our stuffs to go to Danniverke for Wendy's 70th birthday.  Fed Biscuit and left a big pile of dog bites in his kennel thinking that he wouldn't find it until he went to bed.  I went out 20 minutes later and they were all eaten.  Guess you can't keep much from that sniffy nose.  Holly arrived to transport us down there about 3:30 and we all piled into her car, Adrian was up at a boat show so it was just the 7 of us.

Had a good night, very smoke filled room but otherwise good fun.  Pies and pastries in the pie warmer, lots of dancing.  Beth had some Mt Dew (caffinee) and just bounced and jumped the entire night away.  She was still dancing and hopping around like a mad thing at 10:30pm, we had to convince her to get into bed.  Theo was in bed but very angry that he wasn't allowed to read, with his eyelids closing and opening.  "I just want to read" and I had to say to him "Little man when your eyes are closing by themselves it's probably best to just listen to your body and go to sleep".  He wasn't happy with that logic.

Got back on Sunday afternoon, I spent the afternoon just doing lawns and gardening stuff, the kids did the recycling and moaned about being tired.

Monday they both had a nasty cough, Theo already had a little one on Saturday morning before swimming but it seemed to go away, but it was back with vengeance yesterday so they both stayed home/off activities.  They don't seem much better today either which is annoying.  It is that time of year when all the coughs colds and grizzles are going around.

Anyway that's enough blather, time to try and get two children up on a cold day when they just want to stay in bed.
