Happy 70th Birthday John Harman / Shots Fired!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello Diary.  It's your old friend Tim, filling in you finally after a long absense.

Yesterday was John Harman's 70th Birthday, Happy Birthday Dad we hope it was a good one for you.  Shame we couldn't be there to celebrate it with you, but we did just get to see you in Tasmania just recently so that was nice!  We gave Dad a little video message we recorded, we'd have rung him but 7am is 5am in Tasmania and that just seems mean on your Birthday.

Sarah was up in Auckland last week, Saturday through to Tuesday.

So anyway on Sunday we drove out to Jaycar to get some gadgets for me (a Soldering Iron, new Multimeter).  We went to go to Carr's Kitchen for some lunch, but they were closed.  So I said to the kids we'd get something in Taradale.  So after buying my bits from Jaycar off we drove to Taradale.  I was just getting the kids out of the car when I heard a huge BANG.  Sounded like a car backfiring, so I wasn't too worried.  When I heard another BANG, glass smashing and screaming, I realised it was a gun.  I threw the kids back into their car seats, didn't clip them in and flew down Taradale main street to the Police station.  Of course it's closed on Sundays, so I pressed the buzzer and someone answered.  I reported that I was very sure I'd just heard gunshots being fired in Taradale.  "Ok I'll just check" she said.  A minute passed and she came back on the line "Yes don't worry someone else has also reported the gunshots, thank you!".  So casual.  Anyway from there we left and went into town to get Pizza from Vinci's, then an Icecream from Lick This.

What else did we do?  Hmmm.  Sunday afternoon the three of us went for a walk around Anderson Park.  That morning Sarah had done a 10km run around The Villa Maria in Auckland!  So we sort of did something similar, except much less taxing.  Theo rode his scooter, man he flies off ahead on that thing.  Beth just wanted to walk next to me and Biscuit.

What else??  Not really much, last week was the first week back at work and it was hard going.  Very hard for Sarah with Beth, she wasn't too well behaved the first couple of days.  We realised it's probably because the last ~4 weeks she's always had Theo or at least someone to play with, putting her downstairs with just her books and iPad isn't quite the same, so she probably expresses being lonely by acting up.  Anyway after talking to her she's been a lot better.  This week she's had a couple of days at the School's Out Holiday Program and a couple of days at Grandma's.  She's still got that nasty as cough, so I've got her booked in on Monday to go and see the Dr (a good one this time) again.  Hopefully it's not the new Chinese Virus that everyone's talking/panicking about.  It hasn't reached NZ yet, but far out we get enough Chinese tourists so it's got to only be a matter of time.

Well I think that's it really.  Not that much exciting, but I thought I better write about being near the Taradale McDonalds (well it was actually Shani's it turns out) shooting.  School holidays are nearly over.  Work is meh.

Tim
