Long Weekend / Nice Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

Had a great weekend last weekend!  Saturday we went to swiming like usual, except it was also election day.  So while Theo was in the pool swimming Beth and I scarpered over to the polling station at the Church and I voted.  That took about 20 minutes, you had to line up to get in then you had to line up in rows of chairs so someone could give you your voting papers etc.  I guess social distancing for Covid.  Once that was done back over to swimming just in time for Theo to get out, then we stuffed around for 30 minutes before it was time for Beth to get in.  We zipped back home and hung out at home, the kids got in the pool for a bit for a swim because it was nice and warm.  Then Saturday night we went into town for the Napier "Nuit Blanche" Art After Dark thing.  It was pretty cool, we got some food, watched some movies on beanbags, Beth and I watched some Street Theatre while Sarah and Theo did a bit more movie watching.  Then we went and bought some books from Wardini as they were open to take advantage of all the people in town.

Sunday was Taradale Primary School's Annual Fete, which was good fun.  Theo got to drive a digger while Beth was more interested in hanging out with her friends she bumped into and buying a nice little new pink bag she found.  We had a great time though, it was a lovely sunny day which was perfect for walking around the Fete.  Then we zipped up to Holly and Adrian's and collected JoJo and Isla and bought them back home for a swim here for a couple of hours, everyone had a great time.

Oh on Friday I helped the other residents clean up Gordon St, it looks so much nicer now.  I met one of the local residents Tye and he's a really nice guy, gave me lots of helpful advice on the various things that need doing around our property.  How/when to cut back the Feijoas etc, he can help get mulch under them if I want later when they've had their season.  Stuff like that.  He also came over on Saturday and helped prune back a tree that was annoyingly hanging over the fence line - it was a bit too dangerous to do with a normal chainsaw but he's got a polesaw so he did it with that for me.  Then we had a walk around the property and he was talking about all the trees etc.  He left by saying "I don't feel bad about all the work I've got to do on the Perssimon Orchid!"

We had two cutovers last week - both had to be rolledback.  Tuesday morning the fibre splicer took way to long to try and get light to the new handover, so we had to roll that back when it wasn't working.  Thursday the local LFC company had issues with the migration and in the end we had to roll that back too. 0/2 it was!  Annoying because it just adds to the backlog of work we're going to have to try and get done before Christmas.

Oh yea this weekend has been a super deluxe long weekend, in fact we've still got tomorrow off as well!  Friday we were going to go to the Show but we decided not to in the end - I spent most of the day getting the gardens all nice and tidy and the pool area all nice and cleaned because we were having Holly/Adrian/Peter and Mary over for dinner.  And was a lovely day/night it was too!!  So beautiful and sunny all day, the pool heated up really nicely (it heats up very quickly on a warm day, I guess the aircon works so much more efficiently) it was about 30c by the time Jospeh and Isla were getting in.  And they had such a good time in there, even once everyone had left Beth and Theo stayed in with the pool lights on until about 9:30pm when I thought we really should get them into bed.  I found a song to play called "It's Time To Get Out Of The Pool" which they thought was totally hilarious.  Saturday we didn't do a real lot - Sarah had a bad migrane in the morning so we didn't do a real lot - I mostly did a bit more gardening, then we went for a cafe/Kmart visit.  Then back home for a little snooze for me.  Then Daisy came over and has been here since - Beth and Daisy are having a great time out in the pool at the moment.  I went with Theo for a walk while he rode his bike, just up John's Road then along the stopback then back down via the dairy for a well earned icecream.  Oh earlier today we went to Big Save Furniture to look at beds for the spare room/office space up here.  Then went to McDonalds.

Anyway, that's about us caught up I think - I've got to go down now and start thinking about cooking dinner/feeding the dog etc.

Oh while I remember - I need to have a moan! While gardening on Friday I've got a splinter stuck right up and under the very corner of my nail.  It hurts like a bastard everytime I tough it too hard.  And then today when I was cleaning out the Greenhouse I cut my hand on some glass.  Yes - I should wear gloves.
