As always it's been a busy few days! I've gotten stuck into the Marathon training, I've downloaded a 30 week plan that you can view here if you're bored. It's not quite 30 weeks out yet, so I'll just keep week one on repeat until it processes. You can watch my process over there on the right with the Strava widget I've installed, it's linked to my Garmin profile thingy and my lovely new watch which I know I've mentioned is awesome but it is totally awesome.
We have Rusty visiting at the moment, we took him for a walk up to the shops last night but that walk was very little about Rusty and pretty much all about the excitement of getting an Icecream, and then begging all the way home to eat the bag of M&Ms I bought for Sarah and I. Still it was fun, if a little grizzly.
Sarah got a phonecall from Kindy yesterday. She thought at first that Theo had hurt himself, but no. Sarah (the teacher) wanted to know how exactly "Big Bae" was spelt, was it 1 word or two. And also did it seem right that "Label" was party of it. Sarah confirmed with her yes, that's all correct. And that's how Theo bought home a special invite for "Big Bae and Label" to attend Kindy next Monday as a special treat. Theo's been taking BigBae in the car to Kindy the last few weeks, but he's not allowed to take it in. He took it in once a month or so ago becuase Kindy was having a down day while their floor was being re-fitted, so Theo took BB in to watch movies etc. Ever since then he's been asking on a regular basis "Is it a special day?" because he was allowed to take BB on the last special day. Apparently he's been asking Kindy every day too, so they are having a Special Day for him on Monday so that BigBae (and Label!) can come for the the day. Here's a photo of the invitation (which has been laminated)
We said Goodbye to Granny on Monday morning at the Airport. She's had a lovely time (well, I'm putting words into her mouth put I'm pretty sure this is a true statement) with the kids. Certainly they had a great time, Beth was in tears on Sunday night and then again after we left the airport. But it was so lovely to have Mum here, I feel like I didn't really see her that much in between being at work, going away for the weekend and just generally doing stuff. But having another helper with the kids and taking them out to do lots of fun things has been great. They had a lovely tea party in the garden, baked cookies and biscuits, went to the playground and had a sausage sizzle, did lots of fun stuff in the garden etc.
Mum also looked after the kidlets on the Saturday just gone, so we got to go out child free! It's hard to remember what it's like. We booked into the Mangapapa hotel, Sarah sent me a message early in the week laughing when TripIt popped up with "Your trip to Hastings is only a few days away!". Anyway that Saturday morning the kids and I, plus Mum, headed into town. Mum did a bit of shopping, we had a snack at the cafe then we all went to feed Fluffy (Rachael's cat I looked after).
Saturday afternoon we said goodbye to the kidlets and went out to Havelock North for lunch at a nice little cafe I forget the name of. I was going to have a beer but their liquor license was having a problem, doh. From there we went and checked into the Mangapapa and had a bludge, Sarah went down and had a spa treatment. I met her in the bubble Spa after that, but man it was hard to enjoy because it was cranked up to 40c. 40c water is not warm, it's freaking hot. We were lobsters. Went back to the room and had a snooze for a while with no childrens to scream at us, then went for a 5 course degustation. Except it was more like 8 courses, there were 4 entrees to try. It was so good, and we had a really nice bottle of wine. And I don't really like wine, but it was really nice. It was a lovely meal.
Breakfast the next morning was very nice too, overall it was a lovely experience. We headed to the farmers market after that and had a good walk around by ourselves. For some reason it was a really busy day at the moment and we both pretty full from breakfast so we didn't spend too long there. Instead we went and bought Beth a new scooter (her little 3 wheel Barbie job wasn't cutting it) and got Theo a little Red Back Spider toy as well. They were happy when we arrived home to see them and give them presents. In fact we got home and they were still out walking with Granny, having gone on a little tour to feed carrots to the horse. Lucky horse!
After that we went and visited an Open Home with Holly and Age (and all childrens) that they want to buy. It was a huge house with ~4 stories, I think they're going to put a bid on it so hopefully it's successful for them. Their current house is on the market too, so it's all happening. From there I decided I would jog back home, have to start the Marathon training sometime. It was hard going, it's only 4.5km but it was raining and I wasn't in exactly super ready-to-go jogging mode. Anyway, I did it, it was a bit slow going but I did it. Once I got home I drove off to feed fluffy then went and bought some beer and snacks and we had a nice dinner with Holly and Age and Mum. Pizza on the pizza brick thing that goes on the BBQ, very tasty.
And that's about all I can remember. Oh I've been getting up each morning at 5:30 and going for a run, as you can see. It's been hard, but it's getting a tiny bit easier each morning. 42km is still amazingly daunting, but I've got time to get up to speed so I think I will.
Update: I forgot, on Wednesday I took Theo to get a Chickenpox vaccination. I thought he was going to howl but he was really good about it. We talked about it a bit with the nurse beforehand and his major question was "Will the needle bend?" and the discussion about how needles that nurses give don't bend, but ones Dr's give DO bend. Not sure what that was about. The nurse who gave him the injection was just amazing though, she had a Peter Rabbit bunny who played "Peek-A-Boo" - battery operated and made Theo just laugh and laugh. Once the needle went in there was a lot of sadness, but only for about 15 seconds and then he went back to laughing and cuddling BigBae. Too easy.
And the Thursday night the week before, I took the two kids into town for the Wardini bookshop magic show and book reading. It was great as always, Beth asked very nicely Mr Wardini if this time she could be a helper and Mr Wardini very kindly picked her first to help, which she loved. Theo then of course wanted a turn, he got to pick a card a bit later on which was nice.
Also, turns out I've never had Chickenpox ever. Wow.
