It's Saturday, the second day of a lovely 4 day weekend. Yes we get Friday off for Hawke's Bay Anniversary weekend, then we get the Monday off for Labour day. To celebrate that Labour is in power I suppose, thanks to the biggest joke of a New Zealand election ever. The Greens and some other party and Labour. I'm sure it'll work and the wheels won't at all fall off within 3 months. No sir, it'll be a rock solid political climate here in New Zealand, you mark my works.
Had a fun day outside today, did a bit of cleaning and digging and chopping and chainsawing. Blair from next door came over when he heard me sawing, said that my chain sounded like it was blunt. He worked in forestry for years, so he knows what he's talking about. But he reckoned it was OK when he looked at it, thought it needed its oiler fixed as it was going to wear out the bar quickly. He's a great neighbour, very helpful, friendly and chatty. His wife is lovely too, we're lucky that nice neighbours moved in after our old nice neighbours Rick and Mandy moved out. Blair is going to let me borrow his trailer tomorrow too, lots more work to do around the house.
Yesterday we pulled up the old roses that were the entry to the back door, they were lovely and all but Theo had recently walked under them and bashed his head, getting badly prickled. Plus they weren't at the back door anymore, they were just in the middle of nowhere seeing as the backdoor moved when we redid the kitchen. Once the rose bushes were gone we had to removed all the old stones, which took a while. But it's done now, it's looking much better though it was just two empty soil holes.
Until today, while Theo was having his afternoon sleep Beth got out there and played mudcakes in there. It was great to see here really just playing and making up stuff as she went, she usually doesn't like to be left alone to do her own playing. But this time armed with clothes she knew she could get wet and muddy she had a great time making mud cakes and jumping in out of the muddy puddles. She was outside for about 2 hours playing while I chainsawed and did other bits and pieces, she really had a great time. Once Theo woke up he came outside for a bit and played while poor Beth, totally conked out by this stage, watched TV in the lounge. Theo and I went to the supermarket to do some shopping and he had a great time, he's such a happy little fella. Big Bae even had a wash today and he was a bit nervous about that, especially when it was time to have milk and watch Peppa Pig on the couch and he didn't have Bae! But once the dryer finished he was given Bae and he's now happily asleep in bed.
Hmmm what else? Oh yes I weeded and feeded the front lawns this morning, hopefully that'll get rid of all the effing dasies out there. I mean they're lovely and all, but I don't want a daisy lawn.
What'd we do last weekend? Nothing too exciting, just more work around the house. Had a nice dinner at Holly and Adrian's on Saturday night. Sunday we just hung out at home, I think, I can't rememeber, but I do remember we went to the trains on Sunday afternoon, finally it was a nice day for seeing the trains. Theo loved it as usual. Then we went and played at the playground for a while, but Beth couldn't handle because she sadly still refuses to sleep at all in the afternoon. So she's always totally stuffed by about 4pm on the weekend and the last two hours before she goes to bed are usually a nightmare.
I've found a great new bit of software to help manage my life, it's like a todo list but better, it's called Kanboard. One of the guys I work with showed it too me, I thought it was too complex and stupid at first but once I've started to use it I really like. REALLY like it, it's fantastic. It's like a TODO list, but you can track what stage the item or project is at. Anyway I'm just writing this note for myself, this was the week I started using it, I hope I keep it up!
Biked to work Weds, Thurs and Friday this week. Couldn't bike Monday or Tuesday because I was in Wellington, went to a Police TICSA conference. Was quite useful too, must say that I enjoyed it and it was good to catch up with a few people in Wellington that I know. It's always nice to get back home though.
The stupid oven hob blew up ~2 weeks ago and F&P still haven't fixed it. This is just like last time it blew up. Apparently they know "for sure" what the problem is this time and it'll be fixed for good, I hope so. It's annoying when you can only use 2 cooktop instead of all 3. Though Sarah made lovely Pizza Bases for us tonight and we had the best pizza cooked in the BBQ Pizza Box. So tasty, I love the bases that Sarah makes and then I just put some Salami and Procutto on mine with cheese and it was super tasty. Theo enjoyed his too. Beth looked at hers, screamed "I DON'T LIKE THIS PIZZA" and run screaming to bed where she'd been fast asleep ever since. Poor little thing, she was just too tired out from the massive day of playing she'd had today.
I think that's about it - time to get some sleep cause I'm knackered too!
Tim
