Oh man. I'd just typed up half a story then I clicked the wrong thing in my browser and lost it all. Damnit! Oh well, time to start again... Here we got. What's the haps I hear you screaming, desperate to know what we've been up to the last couple of weeks. Well really, not a lot. We're both back to work, the kids have been at School's Out which they both seem to be enjoying. We were a bit worried that Theo might not like it, but he got stuck in straight away without a care in the world. It helped of course to have his sister there with him to look after him, and the fact the first thing he saw was a big car tower to play with also eased the transition. It's good that it's been easy for them both, Beth was always a bit hesitant last year because she was by herself and sometimes there wouldn't be anyone there that she knew for her to play with.
A good way I figure out what we've been up to is to look back on my photos from the last couple of weeks and really, I don't have many at all. Last Friday we went down to Ahuriri for an Icecream, took the kids scooters so Theo could practise on his new razor one with only two wheels. He spent about 20% of the time scootering and 80% of the time talking. In the end we had to say to him "Dude! STOP talking and just scooter!" because all he wanted to do was talk. And talk. And talk. Which is fine, he does love to talk.
What else? I've been doing a fair bit of running the last few weeks, trying to keep up with a Virtual Garmin Challenge to run 2021km in 2021. That means I have to knock over 505km every 3 months. I'm currently up to 85km and I'll knock over another 5km at lunchtime today. I haven't actually done much running this week though, I've been having a hell of a time sleeping the last few nights. I keep waking up at like, 2 or 3am and can't get back to sleep for a couple of hours. I think maybe I'm getting too cold, I put an extra blanket on last night and I slept like a champion, so I hope that's all it's been. I did Parkrun on Saturday, wasn't my best time but it wasn't my worst either. Also ran out to the Puketapu on Sunday, that's an 11km jog along the limestone paths which is always nice, even though it was boiling hot. Sarah and the kids kindly came and picked me up. Not like the old Marathon days when the Puketapu was the halfway mark! Though I hope to get back up to that a bit later this year, I'll need to do some long runs if I'm going to knock over the 2021km thing.
Other things in no particular order:
Beth got a bad ear infection from the Taupo hot pools. Took her to the Dr a few Saturdays ago, they gave us some drops that didn't seem to be helping so I took her to our GP on the Monday. He said wow it's just FULL of wax and got us in next door for an emergency ear way removal. I thought Beth would scream and cause a major fuss, but the ear way removal lady WAS lovely, said all the right things to Beth to ease her fears and then with a very gentle long pair of tweezers. And Beth was VERY impressed to be shown the huge ball of wax that had been sitting in her ear causing her all the fuss. Once it was removed she was so much happier and the infection cleared up fully within a few days. So that's good.
Took the kids camping in the tent last weekend too. I know we just went camping, but we had to pack up in the rain so the tent was still damp, had to get it out anyway to dry it so we made a little night of it out there. Probably put the kids to bed a bit too late though, and it didn't help how loud the speedway was. Still we had a bit of fun though, kids enjoyed it. I even got a decent sleep to be able to get up and go to Parkrun.
Coming back from dropping some stuff off at Holly and Adrian's the other night, I saw a man walking a dog. I thought "That looks a lot like Reggie" but I thought it would probably just be the same dog we'd met previously in Anderson Park. I thought I'll stop and ask and sure enough, the man was walking Reggie! He was super excited to see me, I don't know if he remembered me or if it's just him being the super excited sort of dog that he is. Anyway I had a nice chat to his owner and took a quick snap of him to show the kids. It was nice to hear his name was still Reggie too.
And yea I think that's it really. Oh yes I am now Cato CSE certified, or something. 2 days of reading and taking quizes at work. Will it mean much? Remains to be seen!
Tim
congratulations
on your CatoCSE certificate. Reggie looks happy too..
