Today we went to the Cheerleading Gym so that Beth could find out what group she was in. She really wanted to be in the same group as her friend Tabatha. They even tied their fingers together on Thursday so they'd be "crossed for goodluck" until Sunday. We got there and all the girls got an envelope with which team they were in, then on the count of 3 they all ripped them open to find out what team they'd been put into. Beth's tears pretty much gave it away that she hadn't gotten into the same team as Tabatha. Tabatha is very good and so has been put into a higher team than Beth, which she's really upset about still. We've told to her and reminded her they're still friends, Tabatha can still come over sometimes etc, but Beth's still pretty devestated. Poor Sausage - sometimes things don't work out and this is one of those times. At least now she has a goal for the year, to work really hard so she can make it in the higher team next year.
Been doing heaps of gardening, really trying to get on top of it. As of today I've planted: Watermelon, 3 Cucumber Plants, Capsicum Plant, 20 sticks of corn, 6 strawberry plants, 2 Basil plants (one green one purple), 1 Rosmary plant, ~10 Calliflower plants, ~10 Brocolli plants. And I've been weeding like an utter fiend, pulling out grasses, racking down the weeds as the seeds start to sprout again etc. Put down lots of snail bait and there's quite a few dead slugs already that were going to try and munch on my plants. Why don't they eat the weeds the little bastards (maybe they do?)
It's been a pretty miserable weekend for gardening though, mostly it's rained the whole time. Theo didn't really want to help either. Sadly the Rock Melon seed he bought home from his gardening club that we've been watering and watering hasn't germinated. I don't think the soil they put it in was very good it keeps drying out.
Last week Theo was off sick a few days - on Monday he stepped out of line in Karate (he's always the first in the line now because of his Brown Tip on his Green Belt) and said he had a bad stomach ache. I thought maybe he just wanted to come home to play with his Spy Kit that had arrived at school (as part of bookclub, he'd been doing heaps of extra chores around the house to earn the money for it) but it wasn't that, when we got home he was quite happy just to lie down for a while. Tuesday morning I'd fogotten about it and we were JUST walking out the door, I was going to walk them up to school and we were halfway up the road when Theo said "I've got a stomach ache again" and I couldn't figure out if he was being honest or not. Anyway we walked back and I drove them up to school instead, my one chance of riding to work for the first time in about a month ruined. I was worried that the school might call and sure enough about 1:30 or so I got a call, Theo's come into sick bay a twice and wants to go home. But when we got home again he seemed fine! Wanted to play video games and go on the Trampoline etc etc. To which I tol him no you've got to rest up. Wednesday I didn't even send him to school, just had him stay home and again while he said a few times he had a stomach ache he ate all his food no worries etc. The only thing was Sarah also had a stomach ache, so I don't think Theo was making it up, but it wasn't a massive problem for him it didn't make him vomit or anything. Anyway, Thursday he tried the stomach ache story on again and I said sorry you're going to school and that was that. That's right! Wednesday morning while he was off sick he suddenly remembered this would be his last Guitar practise before a little end-of-year concert this Tuesday. He was mega sad, so I rushed him up to practise for that, waited in the car for 30 minutes and then bought him home again. Seemed silly not to let him do that, he does like Guitar. I even got out my electric guitar and amp during the week and let him have a little bash on that. I hope it really annoyed the neighbours with the fucking annoying dogs.
Wednesday before that we went up to Taradale for dinner for Isla's 9th Birthday. Here's a few photos.
Weekend before the one just gone Grant and his family came over with Maple so Maple and Biscuit could have a play date to see how they got on . As usual Biscuit did the "Hip and Shoulder" tackle on her for a bit but after that soon calmed down and they had a great time running around out the back while the kids all played in the pool. That weekend was such a nice weekend, sun sun sun and more sun. Unlike the one just gone, stupid weather. On the Sunday night I discovered some postcards in the mailbox from Dad, so I gave them to the kids and then told them they had 1 hour to write a letter each back to him, which they did. They were quite cute letters too, I took photos of them I must come back and remember to link them here when Dad's received them.
That's about all that's been happening I think. My two early morning changes last week were cancelled because the fibre stuff wasn't ready. So I got to sleep in normal times. Of course that means we'll have to make up the times somewhere else, so it's not really that good!
Oh we had a restructure at work (Mercury) in my team, but it was just to change the reporting lines, no one got made redundant or anything like that. Oh and I guess I should write so I remember - Greg my NOW boss took 3 months leave as of last week. I hope he comes back at the end of it!!
And my last bit of SAD SAD news is the Dishwasher has blown up, giving me an E15 error. All the online videos I've found tell me it's the dishwasher detecting water in its base. There's videos online showing how to dismantle it and investigate it, but I don't have the right screwdriver bits or the time to want to try and fix it myself. So I guess I'll be hand washing dishes until it's repaired. Might give the kids something to do to help around the house!!
