Tasmania

Submitted by TiM on

Well it's been almost a month since my last update so I better make this one a long one.  I'm currently as I type this sitting in Dad's loungeroom with my work laptop, bashing away.  It's good to be back in Tasmania, even though it's for a short visit.  Anyway before I get to Tasmania I'd better recap the last month or so!

It's the next day after that last sentence now, Saturday.  Last night I went down to Irish Murphy's and had a couple of pints with Rob and Denny Fleming.  Great to see them both, Rob's busy as always with 100 things going on.  I'm amazed he managed to find time to catch up with me, but it's great that he did.  Tonight I'm going to go and see Travers, have a couple of pints and dinner with him which'll be nice.  We were going to go on a boat cruise today too with Jeremy, Nicole, Flecther and Emme but Emme is still really crook, worse than she has been the whole trip so they're thinking of taking her to the hospital if they need to, she's been up for a lot of the night vomiting and has a rash etc.  Plus it's SO windy today, super duper windy so I very much doubt the sailing would have gone ahead anyway, I don't think I'd be that confortable going out on a sailing boat today in these super gusty winds.

On the 1st of May I took Beth and Theo to the tough guy and girl challenge, along with Beth's friend Daisy.  Daisy's Dad is a single parent now because sadly his wife passed away, so we like to try and do a little to try and help him out if we can.  Anyway so I took the three of them out to Tough Guy and Gal.  The toughest guy was me though, because my back was still hurting like an absolute bastard.  Trying to sit down or move or any of that stuff was total agony.  Regardless I helped them get ready, get some war paint on and head off to to the start line.  Beth was with Daisy the whole time so I never really needed to do much with them, Theo I helped look after a bit more but eventually he found some friends and was away by himself too.  Eventually the race started and they were away!  I went down to take some photos, first time I've got to use my Pixel 7 Pro's excellent zoom lens and it worked really well.  I took some photos of Theo climbing over the climbing wall, I waited for ages but I never saw Daisy or Beth.  To be fair to them they had to do the 3km run, Theo was only doing the little nippers course which was 1.5km.

Eventually after 20 more minutes I saw Beth coming over the line so I went to greet her, I asked her were Daisy was and she said she wasn't sure, I started to get a little worried after another 10 minutes went by but eventually she turned up with Beth back at our little base, so all good there.  Theo was getting very annoyed he didn't get a medal, turns out they just ran out.  Eventually the school went and got some more medals though and he got one so he was happy with that.  We stayed for the prizegiving in the hope we might win a prize, Theo was very very excited and kept getting ready to run up.  They called out 50 odd name but none of them were Harmans, so he was a little dissapointed about that.  Overall I think they had an OK time, I'm sure that Beth and Daisy loved it even though they probably walked for half of it, Theo took it a bit more seriously but also just wanted to moan the whole time about how he'd grazed his leg etc.  Oh well they did it, good on them.  We never really got much training in like we'd plannmed, most mornings it was raining, or I wasn't there, or we had to go to Guitar etc.  Once we'd finished there we came back home and hung out until it was time to take Beth to cheer, so we dropped Daisy off on the way home.

Another weekend in there somewhere, the long weekend when it was the King's Birthday, Daisy came over to stay for a couple of nights which was great fun for Beth.  Theo felt a bit left out on one of the day, so I took him for a bike ride down to Spew Cafe and Dairy, where we got a chocolate milk from the Dairy and shared a Twix.  Theo was super impressed with the Twix, that was pretty cute.  Then we rode our bikes back, this time I let Theo do the road safety, just checking he was making the right decisions which he was.  And when he got back his friend Luke came over for a couple of hours to play, because Beth still had Daisy there playing.  Then it was time to take everyone home, so we all jumped in the car and did dropoff at Daisy's then dropoff at Luke's.  So that was a good little long weekend. Some photos.

We went to Timezone the weekend just gone, the kids had a great time as usual.  Theo really loves the VR machine and would just go on that over and over if he was allowed I suspect.  Once we'd finished up there we do the same thing we always do which is spent tickets at the ticket thing.  Theo got himself a whoopie cushion which he was super stoaked with, Beth got herself a little fuzzy green worm toy thing, of course it's called Wormy.  After we'd been to timezone we went to That Sandwich Shop for a good ol' tasty sammy, then we did a little bit of clothes shopping.  Beth got herself a lovely "Love CLub" jumper which she really likes.  Once we got back to the car Sarah distracted me while Theo planted the Whoopsie Cushion (I "didn't know" about it at this stage) on the passenger seat of the car with Beth's jumper over the top of it.  I was then instructed to get in we were going now and so I sat on it and it let out a HUGE fart noise which of course both children just thought was the greatest thing in the whole world, Theo especially.

He's tried to trick me with a few more times, of course every time I know what's coming but I just pretend I don't because it's so much fun to see his face LIGHT up when he thinks he's pranked me yet again.

A few weekends ago I got the kids out to help rack up all the leaves and to put them into the compost.  They racked them up (I helped) and then put them into the greenwaste bin, then walked them out to the vvegie garden and put them into the compost bins that I'd cleaned out ready to accept all the leaves.  It was a fun little activity, of course they didn't want to do it at first but after a while they started to enjoy it.  I also took the time to put some algae cleaner on the front steps because they were getting a bit green and very slippery.  Sarah slipped over on them a couple of years ago and I'm always paranoid now about how slippery they are.  I didn't think the cleaning I'd done had made much difference but after a few days when I checked them again they were much better, they also dry out so much quicker when the sun comes out which is good.

2nd June note: Theo woke up this morning, wandered into the kitchen.  "Daddy, I know what Versatile means!" "Oh yes, go on, tell me then" "That's when you fight a tile!!" He thinks he's such a comedian.

Salamanca today with Dad, went down to get a coffee and a little breakfast, then we went over to the Hobart Bookshop to get some books.  Dad says he goes there quite often to buy books and judging by how many books he has in his unit, I don't disbelieve him!

Got a new battery put into my original Pixel 1.  That's its second replacement battery.  Now I can take more big long videos which Google will store for free for me.  Bonus.  I took a bunch today driving down to Kingston with Dad and a lot of photos of old Kingston places with it.   It's a great phone and I'm glad it's still alive.

Took the car out to the Nissan Shop last week to get it a service before we go away later in the month.  I got out there really early because I was worried about the traffic, but it wasn't too bad the morning I went.  Dropped it off just before 9, hoping they'd have it sorted out by 1.  I walked around Hastings, dropping in and out of cafe's while trying to work.  1pm came around I rang them, still wasn't out.  2pm after having outstayed my welcome at about 3 cafe's I walked into the Nissan place and asked to just wait in the lounge until the car was ready.  And then I looked with amazement out and LRG was still on a hoist!  I bet they didn't even start on it until 12pm, I was so fucked off.  And when I did get it back, they hadn't even looked at the door rattle, one of the main damn things I wanted them to do.  We pay a premium to take it to the Nissan place but fuck that now, I'm not going to take it there again if we get treated like that.  I especially asked for it to be done by 1 but no, it wasn't and when I finally did get it back 2 hours later than they'd committed to, the door rattle wasn't fixed.  Piss poor.  I had to miss a damn meeting because I didn't get into work in time.  At least my boss understands but it shouldn't be this hard.

Sarah has started to think about doing a degree in speech therapy which I think is cool. It'd be 8 years though, it's a 4 year degree she'd do part time.  Theo would be 16 and Beth 18 by the time she finished, but it'd be a great accomplishment.  She's still thinking about it for the moment.

Whenver I pick Beth up for cheerleading she always wants me to bring Kermot and Sniff Pillow.  But I got home the other night to this lovely cute little note instead.

I can't think of too much else that's happened over the last three weeks, but as always dear diary I'll try and keep you more up to date.

Tim
