I was 44 on Saturday! Woo, gettin' old now. I got a Tilt Hydrometer which is very cool and makes it very easy to know what stage of fermentation a brew is at without having to extract wort. Which is pretty much a waste really, you can extract it and then put it back into the brew but then you introduce oxygen etc. The tilt removes all that hassle, people rave about how easy they are to use, so I'm glad I got one! I also got some sweet bike/running gears, a really really nice light running jacket. It's so light yet it keeps the wind of perfectly, I went for a run in the freezing cold this morning and it was perfect. I also got some gloves, which I've needed for ages I think, I'm glad I got some, and some pants for running too. The pants are also great, I wore them biking to work this morning in the freezing cold and with my gloves and windbreaker, I was still nice and snuggly and warm when I got to work.
Friday night Sarah came into town "For a drink" but it actually transpired she'd organised for us to go and have dinner, which was nice. So we went and had a few cocktails at Monica Loves, then Ubered out to Havelock North to go to Piku (Japanese) for dinner. Such tasty food, as always. Then we ubered home again and said goodbye to the babysitter (who'd had some sort of problem with the fire and smoked the place out!)
Saturday morning the kids bought up my presents and sang Happy Birthday which was nice. Then we went to Orbit for breakfast, then took the kids to the Taradale playground and the library. Then the pool guy came and we talked to him for a couple of hours to understand all the things we need to do to get a pool in and going. It's a lot of things!
Saturday afternoon I went out to Brave to fill up on Tigermilk, which of course they'd sold out of. It's so hard to get these days, it's just so popular. I managed to find one sad little 300ml bottle in the back of the fridge so I grabbed that and filled up with some other similar IPAs instead. Saturday night Holly/Adrian/J/I and Peter&Mary came over and we had Pipi Truck and fish and chips for dinner! A nice night. We didn't win lotto though, damnit.
And yea, that was the weekend! Sunday I went to collect Beth from her sleepover at Emma's, we'd been worried she wouldn't sleep but apparently she was fast asleep by 8pm (though she got up at 9:30pm thinking she'd slept all night, had to be put back to bed again but was happy enough). Rest of Sunday we went up Dobel for a walk, went for a bike ride and just hung out at home by the fire. Sunday night/Monday morning at midnight Beth got up with what I thought was sore legs, so I gave her some medicin and rubbed her legs for a bit, then went to bed only to hear her crying 10 minutes later because she'd upchucked on her bed. Oh dear. So cleaned up everything and tucked her back in. She stayed home on Monday but she was 100% fine, must have just been a quick tummy bug or probably not washing her hands properly etc. Silly Sausage.
Oh yes - we found out on Friday that Beth needs glasses. She has an Astigmatism in her left eye, which means things are blurry for her. So she'll get corrective glasses.
And Theo's stutter doesn't seem to be getting better (or worse) so we've got an appointment booked for him to see if we can't get someone to see to him and help him correct it. Doesn't seem to be stopping him learning very quickly at school though, his reading his coming along really well.
