6:15am on a Saturday morning and I finally think I'd better get around to updating my diary. I spend more time keeping the platform it runs on updated than the actual words within! Anyway here's a recap of the last month! Shit that's right a whole month.
So the second week of School holidays I took the Tuesday off from work as well, this time I took the kids to see The Bad Guys. They really enjoyed the movie, even I liked it too. It was much more interesting than the silly Sonic Hedgehog movie. That was a brainless piece of trash compared to The Bad Guys. Well maybe not even compared. Anyway The Bad Guys was fun, had a good message, had some fun music and was overall a great movie. Beth didn't even need to go to the toilet once, better than the two trips we had to go during Sonic.
I've been to get my eyes tested, I couldn't get into Specsavers, so I went to a different Optometrist instead. She was really lovely, explained everything she was doing, didn't need to puff my eyes with the stupid air blaster thing. Instead she used some drugs to numb my eyes and then pressed some magical machine against them. I feel a bit bad turning around and taking the prescription I got from her back to Specsavers to take advantage of a good deal they had going, but that's business I guess. Maybe next time I'll go and check out their range of glasses too. The lead time on glasses is 4-5 weeks, but seeing as that was about 3 weeks ago I ordered them, it shouldn't be too long before they arrive.
Three odd weeks ago we went and got some family photos taken by the same lady who took photos for Mary's 65th birthday. It was called a Mini Shoot, it was just ~20 minutes of us getting photos at a nice park in Hastings just as the sun was going down. The day before we al went into town and made sure we all had nice outfits to wear etc. The photoshoot went really well, and we got our pictures the other day. We get to pick 25 out of the ~35-40 she's taken, we haven't been through and done that yet, but we've got a year. They're great anyway. The photoshoot was a present from Holly and Adrian for Christmas.
Two weekends ago was Mary's 70th birthday party. We all got flashed up after swimming and a van came to pick us up and took us out to a Winery I've never been to before. Well apparently I have but I don't recall because it was ages ago. We had a nice set course meal there, then headed back to Peter and Mary's for an evening of dancing and fun. Peter got out the record player and, after a few technical difficulties, we got it playing records. Sarah did a bit of DJing while everyone else had a bit of a boogie. It was a fun night, everyone enjoyed themselves I think and Mary's seemed to have a great time even though I don't think she was feeling super great. Here's some photos from the day.
Just got back from 3 days in Auckland. It was one of those whirlwind tours, get up, install a new 7750 SR2s and ESA Cards in VPK Exchange, head over to Mayoral Drive at 4am the next morning to upgrade the border router from 13.3R6 to 20.2R3-S3. The huge jump that just requires blowing away the entire box and then re-applying the configuration. A real sledgehammer approach but it worked. Then I met up with Greg and we went around and cabled up a bunch more stuff with new 100G optics etc etc. Drove back via Tauranga where of course while I was in a cafe who should walk out and say Hi but Bevan. He said it was either me or the best Tim Harman Doppelganger he'd ever seen. Then Greg and I drove back via Rotorua and Taupo exchanges.
The pool has all the tiles down, and there's a big trench for a cable to get run to the Pergola. That's happening on Monday. The pool fence and other items should be going in this week and by the end of the week it might almost look like a finished pool project. I hope? Maybe not? It's hard to tell. We're getting closer and closer anyway, step by step. I had to get a sparky to come a couple of weeks ago when I thought we'd found a live cable out in the garden. It was live too, powered of the shed supply. Turns out the sheds have their own little fusebox/switchboard which I had NO idea about. Crazy. Anyway we were going to get the Pergola powered off that, but then we realised if we did that in a few years if/when we get rid of those horrid old sheds, we'd have to get the power re-done and that would involve probably digging up some of the work we're just putting down. So it was easier for long-term to just get a trench dug now.
Beth's been sick the last couple of days. I swear every time I go away for work one of the kids gets sick which makes the work for Sarah twice as hard. Thankfully she didn't wake up last night and come and ask for Medicine, so hopefully she's on the mend. Theo keeps saying he's sick as well, but we think he just likes the fact that it seems to get Beth attention so he's trying it himself. It's hard to know though we try to encourage them not to cry wolf of course, but they do. Anway neither of them got up last night so hopefully they're both OK today, we'll see.
The lastest game to play at night now is called "Banana Bowling". Theo puts BananaBanans (or Beth Shrimpy) at the end of the hallway near the kitchen door and they bowl a small ball down the hallway trying to hit the stuffed toy and "push" it into the kitchen. It usually takes about 30 attempts (i.e. it takes farking FOREVER) and there's a "protective pillow" that covers the potted plant in the hallway. I have to commentate and they both think it's pretty funny. I mean it is, but the fact a game can drag on for 20 minutes (then the other child wants their game) is a tad annoying. Still it's funny and Theo's pretty happy with himself for coming up with the idea.
Sarah will probably have to go on a Gluten Free diet. She's been seeing someone for a while to try and figure out upset tummy/discomfort sort of thing and now as part of that she's trying gluten free. Last weekend she had to go and have a colonoscopy which meant all the prep of drinking horrid fluids and all that sort of carry on. At least it was over quickly, Peter took her to the hospital and brought her back, I just took the kids to swimming like normal.
Ok it's 6:40am now, time to take the dog for a walk because he hasn't been for one for a while and he keeps looking at me like he's going to die. I did take him for a walk up to pickup Theo from school yesterday, but that wasn't really a chance for him to run around like he wants/needs. Far out though I get a bit sick of the fact he just STARES at me 24/7 while I'm in the lounge and he's on his dog bed. STARE STARE STARE. With occasional sookie noises. Wuss dog.
Until next time diary.
Tim
