This weekend is the Cape Kidnappers 21k Half Marathon run. I've been doing a bit of training for it, not heaps, but not a zero amount. I've lost nearly 10kg since I started training for it and already my knees are much happier for it. I did a 16k run on the weekend just to gauge how well prepped I was and I did pretty well, I wasn't super fast or anything and I'm going to be a lot slower on the actual run itself because it's all uphill and downhill vs the flat that I've been running on. But hey at least I've done some training, I've tested out running with my waterback thing a few times. I'm pretty much as prepped as I can be I think.
We had Isla's birthday here on Sunday - she wanted a pool party birthday and Holly and Adrian are still finishing off their pool area renovation. So everyone came here, I had the pool all nice and ready for them at a lovely 28-29c. It was so warm! Everyone had a great time by the looks/sounds of it, I actually left to go for my 16k test run once the party got well underway and by the time I got back everyone had packed up and left!
The kids both seem to be sick at the moment. Theo was off for 2-3 days last week, then they seemed to be mostly fine over the weekend, then Beth was def sick on Monday and Theo seemed to be sad too so Sarah kept them both home. Tuesday they both went to school, but yesterday Beth was all coughing and sad again and even Theo didn't seem himself but we sent him to school anyway. At least he was OK for his Rocky Shore visit on Tuesday, it was a class visit and he seemed to have a good time doing that. Tuesday night was Isla's birthday at Lone Star and both kids seemed fine for that. But just now Beth's up out of bed again and coughing and howling and thinking she's going to cark it (She's not). It was also a Blood Moon that night, that's why there's the picture of the two of them at the beach with the moon behind them. Of course it looked a lot better in person than the tiny little moon spec my phone took. We woke them up about 10:30 to see the moon as the eclipse was starting. I told Beth to walk upstairs, then went to wake up Theo. When I found Beth she was walking around in circles in the loungeroom. I took her and Theo upstairs and we looked at the moon but both kids were totally zoned out in "brain asleep" mode. Beth didn't even remember the next morning when I mentioned to her we'd showed her the moon.
Sunday night we noticed a tick on Biscuit. Well, I say we noticed, actually Beth noticed the funny thing on his ear which was quickly realised to be a tick. I did the rub the tick in a circle trick that I learnt on Youtube last time and it really didn't seem to be working but I just kept at it and kept at it and eventually the little bastard came out and tried to escape but we were ready with the sticky tape. I sticked him and then Theo examined him with his bug kit and wrote some notes and drew some pictures of the tick in his little examination booklet.
Last week a man came in his digger to level out the back lawn. He ripped out the last bits of the old pool and got that all "nice and flat" to use a Big Bae term. And then put down grass seed so we've been out there watering that when we can. The last couple of days have been wet and rainy anyway so it's getting watered naturally. There's still a few things we need to try and fix up, but it's getting there. Hopefully have some grass to mow for Christmas!
Oh last week when I was out doing a long run, I heard a plane going overhead and I looked up to watch it. But then was totally freaked out because there was a huge line of lights going across the sky. Aliens I thought to myself. I tried to take a photo but I only had my little Jelly2 phone and its camera is like a potato. I then thought about ringing Sarah to see if she could see them out the window, but as I started to do that, they slowly vanished over the horizon. I messaged her on my phone to tell her I had seen Aliens and she told me it was just Starlink. Oh yea, duh. Of course it was just Starlink Satellites, I knew that.
That'll do, I'm mostly caught up again. Need to go back still and flesh out the Granny Departs story because it's a bit bare bones still.
