10 Year, Beer Brewing, X-Race

Submitted by TiM on

So yes! Friday was our 10th Wedding Anniversary.  Hooray for us!  I left Sarah a big bunch of flowers and a card on the kitchen counter before I headed to work, then at lunchtime she came to pick me up to take me "Somewhere secret" and so off we drove.  I honestly had no idea where we could be going - I  was thinking maybe for a Helicopter flight or something like that, but she'd said to me "We can go anytime really, so just whenever is easy for your work" so I knew it wasn't something with a strict timeline.  Anyway we ended up parked outside a huge shed in Hastings.  No signwriting or anything to say what they are, turns out they're the WilliamsWarn brewshop!  She's been saving up for a while and got me a BrewKeg10 Complete Pack Plus which is 2 x 10L kegs you brew it, plus the fridge and beer handles.  Magical!  So yes, pretty damn impressed with my present.  I got Sarah a little diamond loveheart necklace.  Which while nice, isn't a complete brewing setup.  I'll have to try harder on our 20th.

Anyway I haven't gone to pick it up yet, I'll have to get someone to help me or hire a trailer etc.  I'd better make some space in the shed tonight too for the whole thing!  Exciting!

Friday night Sarah came into town and we checked into The Dome hotel, it was nice though not quite as nice as I'd been hoping.  Shame the spa/pool wasn't going.  Still we had a nice night, dinner at the new French Restaurant.  We had snails (Beth was mortified when we told her.)  Back home on Saturday morning, thanks Peter and Mary for looking after the kids for the night, and Peter for moving our letterbox off the very front verge and onto our property.

Sunday was X-Race day, so we headed into town about 12:30 and got a park and a place to park our rug on the grass.  At 1:30pm was the nippers race, that was Theo and I zooming around a course.  We had to run down, do an egg and spoon race, then a sack race, then Theo had to paint my face with clown paint and I had to paint a tiger on him, then onto the finish line.  Hooray!

Sarah and Beth did the full X-Race (as did Holly and Joseph) and I don't know all the things, but I know they had a sack race, had to tie knots, had to paint a paper house and assemble a lego car.  It took them about an hour and a half.  Beth was quite nervous about it, because of how many unknown things there were.  But she got a medal (as did Theo) at the end so that made it all worthwhile I think.

And yea, that was pretty much our weekend!  Now it's back to work.
