I can't believe we've gone from here, to going to Plunket for the final "B4 School" check. I looked after Theo on the Friday morning while Sarah took Beth up for her checkup. They made her do lots of stuff like stand on one leg and hop, spell words etc. Sounds like she did a really good job and was getting on like a house on fire with the nurse. Until it came to the final part of the checkup, the injections. Then it all went off the rails for poor Beth, the lovely nurse turned into Satan.
When Sarah got home with Beth in the car, I have never seen Beth in such a state. She just had this horrible vacant look on her face, staring out into space sobbing uncontrollably. She kept telling us that her arms didn't work anymore. After lots of talking to her we got out of her that she thought her arms weren't ever going to work again, so we had to explain that yes, they would work and while it was not a very nice experience, it's necessary to make sure she doesn't get sick etc etc. We haven't really talked about it since though, because the trauma is still fresh and real and we don't want to reminder her about it.
Some other medical dramas this week too, but everything is fine for everyone so I'm going to write too much about it here. Big relief on Friday afternoon though.
Rode to and from work every day this week, they have opened up the new path that goes parallel to the motorway, it's really good. It's fully away from the road, so you don't have to worry about parked cars opening their doors onto you, cars swerving as you ride etc. The only problem is at the end of the path you have to cross over 2 lanes of traffic to get onto the bike lane again.
Riding is good though, I've got my time from home to work down to about 19 minutes, depending on how much wind there is. I keep seeming to get a headwind going to work and then again coming home the wind is in the opposite direction! When I first started riding though it was taking me 26 minutes, so to get it down to about 19 makes me happy, I haven't quite cracked an average speed of 30km/h yet, the best I've done is 29km/h. So close.
My first every kickstarter project arrived this week. I wasn't ever 100% sure it would arrive, but it was $90 so I wasn't super worried. It's a super tiny 4G Smartphone. Typing on it is hilarious, if it wasn't for auto-correct then it'd be impossible to use. The only annoying thing about it is that the GPS, a heavily advertised feature, doesn't really work. So when I go for a ride with just the phone in my back pocket I can play music on the bluetooth headphones just fine but the Fitbit GPS tracking doesn't work. So that's annoying. Hopefully something fixed in a firmware update, but given that it's really just a cheap chinese Android in a small form factor, that probably isn't going to happen.
Fixed the new washing line on Friday night, when we installed it last weekend we didn't really check that it was straight, so when we put the line up it was on a nice little silly angle. So on Friday night I removed the anchor and banged it in again, this time using a spirit level after each bang to make sure it was going in at a straight angle. Now it looks much better. And not at an angle.
Holly and Age very kindly looked after the kids for us last night so that we could go out. I dropped them over to their house about 4:30pm, then came home and got dressed. Then we headed into town, realising halfway there that I hadn't put a key out for Holly. Ooops. At least the spare key was still in the usual hiding place, so she could still let herself and the kids in. We went and had Mexican for dinner. Very tasty. Then we went to see "Battle of the Sexes" at the Glove Theatre, which was a good movie. Then we got a cab home and found everyone all tucked up asleep (well, not Holly)
This morning is sadly ANOTHER rainy day, I swear the weekends conspire against us to make it rain all the time. Once everyone's had breakfast we'll go to Mitre10 to get a few things, mostly some fertiliser for the Wisteria which has never been as Purple as it was when we first moved in. It still flowers in a huge bloom though so it must be doing OK still. But it would be nice to see it a strong Purple instead to washed out blue it is at the moment.
Think that's about it.
