Rain, Borders, Long Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

It's a long weekend (Waitangi Day today) and man oh man is the weather shit. Woke up this morning and it's just been raining solid all night, the pool is about to overflow (doesn't really matter) and I can imagine the ground is wet and boggy outside.  Hopefully parts of Jervoistown don't flood again, it certainly doesn't seem as bad as the time it did flood.  Saturday we did the usual, I took them up to do their swimming lessons.  Beth's getting good at swimming fast, and her dives are getting better.  She's also starting doing tumble turns, she did 3 amazing ones but sadly the 4th one I decided to film to show Sarah how good she is getting, she fluffed up.  Oh well. Theo's coming along well too, he's starting to learn to breath on the side and seems to be doing quite well at that.  Once swimming was over we went back home and we all hopped in our pool and had a great ol' time until the big black clouds started to make their appearance.  The kids still stayed in for another couple of hours even after Sarah and I got out.  Then they watched the last movie of the Harry Potter series which they enjoyed, Beth more so than Theo.  Sarah gave her a Harry Potter quiz the other night and Beth got 47 out of 50 questions right!  Oh yea Saturday night I also took them for a walk up to the dairy to get some lollies - they'd put their PJs on which getting out of the pool so they put their 'oodies over that and walked up with umbreallas.  Thus the photos of them like that...

Yesterday we went up to Holly and Adrians to say hi, get the quote from Adrian for the back area deck and pool pergola etc.  They gave us some nice fresh fish too, always gratefully received!   We came back home, I took Biscuit for a walk in the rain.  It wasn't that bad when we started but it suddenly got really bad and never really let up.  I've always wanted to walk up to the one way bridge and then back home to see what it's like, so I did that.  Turns out it's a pretty shit walk, once you get to the one way bridge there's no footpath or good place to walk until you get into Meeanee itself which is about 3-4km.  So that wasn't very enoyable, especially in the pouring wet rain with cars flying past you at what's supposed to be 80km but is almost at least 100km if not more.

Got back home and Sarah made us home made Fish and Chips (well ok the fish was home made not the chips) with home made Onion rings too.  Tasty.

This morning the kids came and woke me up, they went out and got Biscuit and had some breakfast and now we're just hanging out.  They're watching their iPads, I'm sitting on the couch typing this.

Looks like the borders will be open up enough for us to go to the Grand Prix.  Still a lot of other things have to go right to get there but it's looking good.  Sarah's 40th this Friday!  The kids first week back at school for 2022 last week, they both seemed to enjoy it.  Beth seems to be handling having to wear a mask just fine which is good.  Last night at bedtime we played the game where Shrimpy is the teach and Baloo is the silly student. To make it realistic all class members were wearing masks - something Beth set all up while I was playing games with Theo.

Anyway here's a few photos from those last few days

Hopefully this week the landscaping on the pool area is going to start.  Not sure how much all this rain might affect it though, damnit.
