It's happening. It's actually happening. On Thursday, in two days time, the hole for the pool is getting dug and it's going to go in the ground. We have our consents. We have our pool guy lined up. We have Chad, the head of the Maori Trust that we have to liase with and wants to supervise the dig lined up. It's happening. The whole extra Resource Consent bit has cost us another $2.5k that I really didn't want to have to spend, but it is what it is. At least it's finally happening. Once it's in it'll just have temporary fencing and I don't think the pump/filter will be going etc as it'll need electricial work, but hey. It'll be IN THE GROUND and the Council roadblocks will be mostly passed. What a day it'll be. I am probably jinxing it totally by writing this. We'll see.
Saturday morning was the usual take the kids to swimming, grab coffee on the way home then come home and try to do a bit of housework. Mow the lawns etc and soforth. About lunchtime I noticed a serious problem with the network (upstream interface flapping), so I put some config into the network to mitigate it (shutdown BGP on that link). All good, problem solved.
Saturday night it was the work Christmas party. 15 minutes before our cab was due to arrive, another alert came in for another problem. Great. The ol' double failure in the network. This instantly caused massive congestion (even Sarah said "Why isn't Youtube loading?") which meant that in the end both myself and Greg took our laptops to the party and spent about the first hour sitting at Church Road winery outside trying to figure out what best to do. Alas, not a real lot because if we had done a massive reconfiguration by the time we deployed it, peak time would be over and we wouldn't need it.
ANYWAY the night was fun otherwise, prehapy a little stuffy for a work fun Christmas party. And about midnight the second fault corrected itself (why? Don't know) and then while I was asleep the first problem was resolved. The biggest problem/outage (well, partial outage) we've had since I've been here, indeed probably in the last 4-5 years and it had to happen pretty much for exactly the duration of the Christmas Party. Boo, Hiss.
Sunday was Beth's Christmas Cheerleading performance in the park and it was great! She was a ltitle bit nervous but once she got there she seemed to settle in. As we arrived there'd been a big crash right outside the Park were they all were, I guess someone was going "Why are there a bunch of cheerleaders in Anderson ParkkkkkRUNCH!!!". So that was pretty exciting for everyone, especially Theo, when we arrived.
And that's it! Waiting for Thursday. I've done everything, I've double checked with the council I'm sure it can all go ahead. But I stll fear something stopping it all. Fingers Crossed.
Tim
