Hello Children

Submitted by TiM on

So we had Beth's Birthday party on Friday night.  It went pretty well really, she had a good time.  A couple of small issues, Sarah went out earliler in the day and got Beth some nice helium ballons, a 9 and a love heart. When all her friends arrived, she wanted to take the 9 outside.  We told her, repeatedly, that it was bad idea and that even though it was tied to her wrist it would probaly slip off, or get caught on a tree. She argued that it would be fine so in the end we said fine, off you go but you'll lose it.  I think it was about 3 minutes later the tears started, she'd tried to get on the trampoline with it and somehow it'd become untied and floated off into the sky, never to be seen again.  So was very upset but we just glared at her and told her it wasn't like we'd given her enough warnings.  I mean I felt a little bit mean but we'd told her about 10 times it was a bad idea and she still marched out there like we were stupid.  Oh well.  A bit of a shame really, Sarah'd driven all the way out to Hastings to get them.  At least the love heart balloon survived and is currently slowly going flat in Theo's room.

That aside, the girls had a good rest of the night, with Pizza and TV and just generally having fun it seemed.  When it came time for bed I got out the 4 mattresses, one each off the kids bed and the two spare matresses off the rollaway beds under the kids beds.  This meant that Theo didn't have a mattress and would have to sleep upstairs with us in our bed.  All good.  Finally we managed to get them all settled and into bed, we went upstairs and got into bed with Theo was who watching "Turbo the Snail" movie.  Just as we were starting to get off the sleep there was a scream and massive sobbing coming from downstairs.  We rushed down to see what was going on and Emma was in tears, sobbing and beside herself.  After some interogations we got out of the girls that they'd been playing "a silly prank" where they made Beth's label maker print out silly messages.  They'd told Emma it was possessed by someone else, or being controlled, or something.  Basically the prank was the girls weren't controlling what it said.  We asked them what the message was that Emma had read but everyone looked at the floor and the ceiling and claimed no knowledge.  No one knew where the label that Emma had been given was either.... We had to get Emma to give her Mum a video call to help calm her down, poor thing.  Eventually she settled down and everyone went to sleep by about 10:30pm or so.

Next morning at 5:30am they were up and screaming.  Hooray.  I got up about 6:30 when I couldn't stand being kicked in the back by Theo one more time!  I made everyone pancakes and then helped everyone packup to go.  We had to go to swiming at 9:45am, so Emma's Mum and Daisy's Mum came to get their daughters at 9:30am as requested, but Isla's Mum never showed up.  Anyway while we were packing up I managed to find the label that poor Emma had been given as a joke.  It read "Hello Children I will Kill You".  Such lovely 9 year old kids...

Once we got back from Swimming Sarah was telling me that there's a whole thing where Isla and Daisy have been bullying Emma, though Emma had only that morning told her Mum who the girls were that had been bullying her were.  So the poor thing has come to a party with the two girls that have been horrible to her for the past year!  We had no idea and as best we can tell from asking Beth she had no idea either.  We did notice Emma seemed a bit on the outter of the girls playing but we didn't realise exactly why.  Poor Emma.  Even her Mum said she probably wouldn't have sent her if she knew it was the Isla that it was.  She thought when she heard Isla was coming to the party it was Holly's Isla!

Anyway, so that was Beth's 9th year old Birthday party.  Filled with just the right amount of drama for a 9yo's party I suppose?

At least Beth had a good time, aside from the Balloon Incident.
