Today I got paid. I woke up this morning, went to the ATM, then promptly sang a song of happiness that probably startled passersby. Having being paid, I rushed off to the nearest (and only it seems) Futon shop in Auckland. They were happy to provide me with a nice double sized futon, as long as I was happy to provide them with $700.
So the transaction is done, and on Monday I will be the proud owner of 1 futon. So long stinking mattress from hell, so long...
Once I'd been to the Futon shop I was busy on the main road trying to flag down a Taxi to take me back home (It's pissing with rain in Auckland today) I tried about 6 taxis, I don't know what I was doing wrong, but they all refused to stop. Maybe they all thought I'd lose my keys in them. So I was walking along waving at cabs madly when some guy pulled up and asked me where I was going. I said "Into the City centre" and he said "Jump in". Seemed like a nice enough person, some church dude who liked helping people out. Anyway, it was a free ride back into town. Bit of a shock, but people here are pretty friendly.
I went out last night with my flatmate Natalie to see her boyfriend Adam (Another Adam and Nat!) play in his band. They were pretty good too, though I'm sure the tasty lagers helped somewhat. The first band were a bunch of young kids, who seemed only to be able to scream and play their guitars really loudly and badly. Adam's band was good though, as was the band that played after them. The place they played at is called "The Masonic" and it is one of only a few places left in Auckland that has live bands. Most of the other places now all have DJ's and dance music. Adam and his group played upstairs, while downstairs some thrash metal band played. In Gas masks. What that was supposed to prove I'm not quite sure.
So today, like I said, I brought a Futon. I've also been shopping for a few other things, like a light and a table etc, so my room isn't totally barren anymore. I also brought a disposable camera, so I'll take a few shots and post them on here sometime.
Tomorrow I'm getting up bright and early to go out to the Sailing Club. Hope it doesn't rain all day tomorrow or I'll be annoyed. Nothing worse than sitting on a rescue boat getting rained on.
