Sitting at work, working on stuff. I'm having a mini power-break at the moment, mind you. Got back from 3 days in Wellington yesterday, went down to see my customer and just to say hi to the gang and make sure everything is running super shipshape.
Last night was Halloween and of course the kids wanted to get involved. You can't avoid it, the school has a disco that everyone wants to get involved in. So Sarah ordered last week some costumes, one was a Mummy costume for Beth because that's what she wanted to go as, and the second was a Dino costume for Theo. Last weekend we went to pickup the Dino costume and put it on, man he loves it! So he was sorted. But all week we've been waiting for the Mummy costume to arrive in the mail, which damnit it never did.
So while I was still flying back from Wellington, Sarah made the most amazing Mummy costume for her! It's way better than having bought one and it even won the "Best dressed Girl" at the school disco! The Disco was very cute, lots of little kids running around mostly excited for the fact that there was lollies and flashing lights that you could buy for cheap. So that was fun, after that we went out Trick or Treating, though mostly the kids were too shy to say anything and just held their baskets out for people to put stuff in. Jervoistown was a mixture of adults who couldn't wait to welcome the kiddies and give them some treats, or the grumpy old bastards (like I'll be in 20 years) putting out signs that said "Piss off we don't do Halloween". Anyway, either to their own I guess, there was heaps of people out walking in JTown, way more than there's ever been before. The first few years we bought candy etc and no one came by, last night we almost were out by the end of the night.
Once the kids were all in bed, Sarah showed me a story that Beth got the "Principles Award" for! It's a great story, lots of interesting expressions and punctuation. There's just a small problem, it's almost word-for-word one of the books that she bought home from the school library! I mean she has an amazing memory to remember as much of the story word for word as she did... But we probably need to have a little talk to her about writing your own story vs just remember the one that you read the night before and writing it down. I mean it is about a bunny who's brave, and sometimes she gets a bit nervous about things, so I think she really associates with the story. But still! Well done on getting the principles award, my lovely cute little plagiariser!!
I guess I should probably mention Wellington! I flew down Tuesday at 10am, worked the day, went out for a beer and pizza with Sam that night. Wednesday worked all day, went out for a curry all by myself Wednesday night. Like I've said, I've been playing Chess quite a bit lately and I spent the evening playing Chess against Andrew Weatherstone (Spoon) on lichess.org. He won. Damn bastards KEEPS winning too, but it's great fun playing him. Humans are way more interesting to play that computers, I don't know why, they just are. And yeah, Thursday night I flew back! I was worried that my plane would be delayed and I'd miss the disco, but it wasn't and I didn't.
What else? Last weekend was the four day weekend, which was nice. Friday I mostly worked in the garden, drove down with Theo to pickup his Dino costume, cleaned all the bird shit off the car for the 30th time. Saturday we just took it easy and then Saturday afternoon was Nicola's 40th birthday party which was cool. The kids had a great time, we had a great time. Came home, I'd had a few drinks so I thought I'd sit up and watch the big All Blacks game. It was free to air (I don't understand why) and yea, the poor ABs got mauled. Totally walked over, I mean I don't really understand rugby but I could tell they were playing like a pack of nancies, and the score reflected that. Poor ABs.
Sunday a bit more housework, I'm sure we must have done something else too but I can't remember what it was. I think cleaning up around the house. Oh I went and bought some corn, some Watermelons and a Venus Fly Trap. Which the kids love. Monday we went over to Peter and Mary's for a lovely lunch, some of the beef that the purchased with their neighbours. Very, very tasty.
And yes... then we come into this week and I've written about that. Time to probably call it a post and post it!
Tim
