Beach Vollyball by Robin Fleming

Submitted by TiM on

The lure off a new sport for me anyway, is a deafening sound. It starts at

the back of the brain a silent whisper and slowly drifts forward as the

weekend approaches. Come Saturday night, it reaches it's forte, waves of

sound breaking around my brain in complete stereo, "must compete", "must

play", "must win".

On Sunday morning bright and early at 8:00 am I arrive at

the beach. The previous nights brain activity severely dampened by the

earliness of day, the lack of sleep and the bright sunshine gleaming in at

eye level.

Sitting on the beach i try to arise some enthusiasm for the up

coming event. This week it's beach volleyball, a first for me.

The crowds start to arrive and setup the equipment. Duncan also rocks up, a

little late and sporting a salesman's smile. You know the smile you get when

you've just purchased an...

A Fool and his Money...

Submitted by TiM on

Woohoo!! Happy Days are etc here. I got paid my bonus today, which is always something to look forward too. We get paid them quarterly, and seeing I've only been with the company now for a little over 3 months this is my first one.

So now I've got some money, which is nice. I certainly hope Diners Club aren't reading this page, because I know they'd really like to know this fact. And I think Johnnie would too. Personally I'd much rather let the pub down the road know, but I really should pay back all my debts. So (alas), the bike gets to wait for another fortnight, if only to put the debt collectors at bay!! ;)

Apart from that, not a real lot exciting happening at the moment. There is certainly plenty of work on, I was in today at 6:30am upgrading customer connections. Then spent the...

Stupid Auckland Weather

Submitted by TiM on

It's a public holiday here in New Zealand today. It's kind of like the New Zealand version of Australia day, but not quite. I was looking forward to today since last night Natalie asked me if I wanted to go with them to the beach today. Of course, I said yes. So when I woke up (ok, at 11:30am) what's it doing? Pissing with rain! Has it rained here in Auckland at all in the last 3 weeks? Nope. Would I have cared if it had rained in the last 3 weeks? Nope. Did I care today? Yup. Did it rain today? Yup. Seeing a pattern? Stupid Auckland weather.

So it's been a pretty quiet day today. Read a few books, played some guitar, bitched and moaned about the weather a bit more. Of course now (7pm) it's a beautiful sunny night. Bitch complain moan.

I'm cooking myself tea at...

Go Aussies!

Submitted by TiM on

Rob and Denny rang me up last night to say Hi, which was really nice of them. The cricket was also on in the background, so the last 15 minutes of the converstaion was Rob's own commentry on the match. Damn I miss the cricket! I really don't see the point of paying $50 a month though just to get SkyTV. At least the Aussie won (though only just) last night.

Pretty usual day today, work and more work. I've decided I'm not coming back to Tasmania until they open a StarBucks there. It's just too tasty and lush. Prehaps I should open the first StarBucks in Hobart? If you've never had StarBucks then I really suggest flying over to Auckland to try some ;)

It's a public holiday tomorrow, always welcomed around here. Not sure what I'll be doing but whatever it is I'll be wearing about 300 litres...

Auckland SPCA Visit

Submitted by TiM on

Today I went out to the Auckland SPCA volunteer orientation day. A whole bunch of people turned up, which really suprised me. I suppose there are a lot of other people out there who want to help out as well. When I arrived I thought there'd been a mass breakout, there were 3 cats and a dog running around. No one seemed to bothered about this though. I later found out they're the resident guests of the SPCA who live there full time now.

It was a pretty interesting morning anyway. We went through the basic rules of what you can and can't do. It's pretty much what I thought it would be, walking the dogs, cleaning up their cages, helping the public to pick a nice fluffy critter that isn't going to try and eat them when they get it home. I was always under the impression that animals...

Sitting around waiting for Cisco

Submitted by TiM on

It's 6pm and I'm still at work, sitting around waiting for a Cisco person to ring me back to explain why it's taken them at least 3 days of stuffing around, and they still can't get our router to boot up correctly. They're like the Microsoft of hardware. I'm pretty sure I can't get sued for saying that. Can I?

Denny sent me this word document today. Thankfully we don't have catchphrase over here. Instead we get Shortland Street. Not sure if I've bitched about Shortland Street before, but if you think the people in Home and Away act like cardboard, then the Shortland Street people act like they're made of concrete.

As usual on a weekday, nothing exciting to report. The Cisco guy still hasn't called (suprising? Nope) so I'm going home.

Dodgy Chinese Food

Submitted by TiM on

Nothing much interesting to post today. It's just another work day after all. We all went out for lunch today at the local Chinese all you can eat dodgy joint. Wasn't too bad actually, but stay away from the Jelly. It doesn't really taste like Jelly, and it has the consistancy of rubber. Evil stuff!

If you've never checked out The Onion then make sure you do. It's one of my favourites, and pretty much always has some pretty funny stories on it.

This weekend I'm going out to the SPCA to do their initiation course. Not sure what it involves exactly, I suppose they show to you how to clean turds of the concrete and that sort of stuff. Certainly something to look forward to. Everything good seems to be on a Sunday over here, the Sailing, the tramping trips etc. What happened to Saturday? Sunday is supposed to...
