Early Mornings

Submitted by TiM on

There is something just so fun about coming into work at 4:30am in the morning. We had to make some major changes to the network this morning, the kind of changes that cause the whole network to basically go off the air. And, as usual, things went horribly horribly wrong. A bit of quick thinking here and there, combined with a large hammer, and things are once again working smoothly.

It's Friday today, woohoo. I don't often write my webpage at 5:55am in the morning, but hey, today is an exception. It's early and now that the major panic is over I'm "relaxing" and drinking some coffee. Whoever invented Mr Coffee needs a medal.

I've been putting it off and putting it off, but I am, finally, going to buy a bike today. I've got SPCA tomorrow and I really don't fancy the 45 minute walk from the train station...

Damn, I don't seem to have appendicitis!

Submitted by TiM on

I went to the Dr yesterday with a real sore belly. It felt like someone had kicked me in the guts a few times. Dr Quack poked and proded and said it's possible I might have the early signs of appendicitis. How stoked was I? But, alas, I seem to be pretty much back to normal today, and the blood tests (which are free. The medical system in NZ is much funkier than Aust's) all came back normal.

Oh well, maybe next time!

In The Navy...

Submitted by TiM on

After work last night I caught the Devonport Ferry over to (suprise suprise) Devonport. From there I walked the 10 minutes over to the Navy base to go and visit Ryan on the HMAS Brisbane. Well, it took about 1/2 hour after I had to get past the Nazi guy guarding the base. He was about 140, and had a bug up his arse about letting people in.

I managed to get Ryan on the phone, who did a bit of begging etc, and eventually Nazi Navy Dude decided to let me through. Massive security risk though I obviously was.

Anyway, Ryans boat was really cool, a lot like Jeremy's. I suppose a Navy boat is pretty much a Navy boat though. It's certainly not something I think I could handle for any more than about 2 days. Ryan's coming back in September, so we'll be able to catchup again...

Moving Out!

Submitted by TiM on

Well I'm not actually moving out just yet. But I've found a really nice place in Mt Eden which I'll be moving into in a few weeks. It's a really nice big room in the front of a nice house, the 2 people living there are really cool, and there's a massive deck out the back and a huge backyard. It's also directly opposite Eden Park, which is where they have all the big sporting events in Auckland. Means I can cruise over and watch the cricket when it's on!

So I'm glad to have found a place, especially one this cool. I'll give my 2 weeks notice here on Monday. I've no idea how I'm going to move all my stuff out there. I suppose I can hire a car or something. I'll figure it out.

It's finally offical. We're buying Juniper Routers for our new core network. Much...

Rage against work!

Submitted by TiM on

Well it's been an interesting few days at work the last few days. Lots of stuff has happened, some good, some bad. I don't think it's quite time to look for another job, but then again it never hurts to polish the old resume.

Everyone be sure to wish dliggins@postoffice.utas.edu.au Denny Liggins a Happy Birthday for today (Wednesday).

Like I was saying, work has been really interesting in the past few days. One of our senior network people decided to resign. I'm not about the rest of the troops, but I have to say it's a bit worrying when one of our sections smartest people decides it's time to move on. It certainly makes you wonder just how many other people in the company are looking to do the same thing. Maybe moving to New Zealand was a bad move!!! (It wasn't)

At least we've finally decided which vendor we're...

Hunting for a new home

Submitted by TiM on

Damn I've been slack in updating my diary this past week. Oh well. I've had a pretty good weekend this weeekend. I've spent most of it hunting around for a new place to live out in the suburbs. The 3 places I'm look at are Mt Eden, Devonport and Ponsonby. That's not going to mean much to anyone not in New Zealand, but bascially they're all central Auckland suburbs, about a 5 minute bike ride from the city. With the exception of Devonport. You get to Devonport by catching the ferry.

I went to the test match on at Eden Park on Saturday. New Zealand Vs Pakistan. Looks like the Pakistan team is going to beat the NZers pretty easily, but that's not really a great suprise to anyone! It was really good to go and watch cricket live again, it's been ages since I've done it. All the New...

Freak of the Week

Submitted by TiM on

The Internet is a wonderful place. Well, it's keeping me in a job at the moment so that makes it wonderful. Then you come across some of the saddest shit you'll ever see. I mean, check that poor guy out. This guy is seriously a freak!

We got sent that link today at work, I just had to share it. I've never laughed so hard, esp at that second page. For those of you that know Travers, be sure to check out his site, especially this link.

Well it's a typical Friday. What can I say? I posted some stuff in last night Diary entry that I decided to remove on re-reading it this morning. It was written when I was a bit pissed off. If you read it, well. If not, you're not missing much.

I'm told that we're finally going to get a decision about our...

Busy Week

Submitted by TiM on

I only realised today that I haven't updated my diary since Monday! It's been a pretty busy week from a work point of view. Not much has been happening non-work though. I was woken up on Wednesday morning at about 4am with a loud "Snap!" noise. Normally I wouldn't worry about that sort of thing, living in the middle of the city you heard all sorts of wierd noises at all hours of the day and night. But this loud snap had come directly from in my room.

It woke me up really damn quick. I turned the lights on in my room and looked around to see just what the f*ck had made the noise. It took me a good 3 minutes to figure it out, and when I did I was very sad! My trust acoustic guitar had pulled it's bridge away from the body of the guitar...
