Down in Windy Wellington

Submitted by TiM on

Well here I am down in Windy Wellington, which for once in it's existance isn't living up to it's name. The trees are only gently swaying in the breeze instead of bending over and losing limbs left right and centre.

The hotel we're staying in totally rocks. I have this whole massive apartment to myself. Kitchen, Bathroom, and massive lounge/bedroom. It rocks. You have to love the company expensive account...

This place even has cable TV. It's TelstraSaturn cable too. Now, without getting myself fired, I have to say the program selection at 5:30pm on a Monday night is somewhat "lacking". I think that's about as critical I can get without getting my butt fired. I've found Pinky and the Brain. Small things amuse small minds, or something.

Didn't do much exciting with my weekend. Played hockey on Saturday night and we got out butts totally kicked 6-0. It was...

Blah

Not much to write about today. Just got back from hockey practice. I still need to brush up on my basic skills, like hitting and stopping the ball. At least I'm enjoying myself.

Anzac day was a nice holiday. I got in the spirit of things by sitting about doing nothing, then joining my old flatmates at the pub for a few quiet ales. There's this really nice pub up the road called "De Post" (used to be an old post office) and they sell all these really exotic tasty beers. $7.50 a pop, but I can't go past the Cherry Beer. Mmmmm

Got a week in Wellington next week on a Juniper training course. Junipers are expensive, sexy looking routers. And routers are, in simple words, dohickies that make the Internet work. Unless they're made by Cisco, then they only make the Internet work 35% of the time.

Hockey Report and Stuff

Submitted by TiM on

First hockey match last night out at Avondale. We didn't do too badly either, going down 3-2. For what was ment to be a social match it turned out pretty rough. One of our guys was sent off, and the other team resorted to some pretty nasty tactics. It was SO MUCH FUN! Of course I'm totally knackered (still), I played right/left wing. Which basically means "run your tits off for the whole match".

I wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought I'd be, mostly the fact that I'm a bit out of shape was what let me down. And the fact I only had sandshoes on. That made those filty cheating bastards, I mean, the other team, aim at my feet when taking free hits. My right foot's still hurting! I helped out with our 2 goals though, even taking a good shot myself at one stage. Well...

My legs hurt.

I think my legs are going to fall off shortly. They've been getting way to much exercise of late and they're not at all used to it. Hockey practice on Thursday night was good, very tiring, but good. It all started to come back to me towards the end of it. Most of the practice was just a match, us (grade 3) vs the grade 2's. The score was even, though we were lucky I think, the grade 2 guys pretty much outplayed us (as you'd expect).

By the end of hockey (it's a 1/2 hour ride to the ground) and riding back home I was totally f*cked. I had trouble getting out of bed Friday morning my legs were like jelly. At least all this exercise is probably doing me good.

Just got back from the SPCA. No violent attacks or anything. I just stink.

We've moved the webcam...

New Car

Submitted by TiM on

As I posted a few days ago one of the guys here at work is selling his 1989 Mitsubishi Lancer before he goes over to Australia. I took it for a test drive on Tuesday night and it's in pretty good nick! It's even got power windows. Sure, it's an automatic, which blows hard, but at it's newly reduced price of $1,400 it's a bargain. I've already put a deposit on it, I get to pick it up sometime next month. I'm happy! It'll be a lot easier to get around to various places now.

I had a performance review today with our new manager. That went OK. It seems I'm doing alright here, and I'm going to get my quarterly bonus, which is, of course, a bonus. Hopefully I'll get that right about the time I have to pay the remaining $1,200 off my car.

Hockey practice tonight. I...

The MR2 Hunt begins...

Submitted by TiM on

Well I didn't have much to do today so I rode my bike around some of the car dealerships around the place to see if anyone had an MR2 I'd like. No luck! I can find them with either the turbo and automatic transmission, or standard with manual transmission. Arrrgh! Typical. Plus most of them are 1990/91 models, I want at least a 92/93. Seeing as how I haven't actually won lotto yet it's not a big problem though, I am just looking.

One of the guys at work is moving to Australia (wise move!) in the next few weeks. He wants to sell his car, so I said I'd buy it. At $1500 it's a pretty good price. It's an automatic, but it'll do until I find myself a nice MR2 to buy!! You know what one of the car dealers said to me today? The reason he didn't...

Pedal Pedal, Woof Woof

Submitted by TiM on

I put myself on the SPCA emergency roster a few weeks ago, so I wasn't really suprised when I got a call yesterday asking if I'd go out today to help out. Not having a bootload else planned today I said that I'd be happy to. I rode my bike down to the train station and caught the train out there. At least there weren't any major dramas this time. All my flesh is still intact.

I'm getting the hang of my bike now. The trusty G-Spot (read back if you don't know why it's called that) is fairly nimble and easy to control, now I've got the hang of it. I certainly gave myself (and a number of motorists) a few adrenaline pumped moments today, darting in and out of traffic at high speed. Woohoo I feel like I'm 12 again :)

Oh yes and mother if you're reading...

Happy Easter!

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Easter everyone, hope it's a good one for all. It's certainly looking like a crappy one here, I wish I hadn't jumped on my bike this morning. Now that it's time to go home it's totally pissing down with rain. Thankyou whoever invented taxis.

Now, it's time to watch the news again.... ;)
