Biscuit Passed!

Submitted by TiM on

It was the assessment last night and I was sure that Biscuit wasn't going to pass.  When it came to "meet a stranger" he went mental and go so excited the other day flipped out and there was nipping and yipping.  We were, thankfully, allowed to have another go and this time somehow, amazingly, Biscuit kept his shit together and sat off to the side.  I think maybe he was a bit scared of the other dog after it had nipped him.  Anyway, that was a pass.  And he did all his other stuff, sit, stay, down, come etc perfectly, like I knew he was able to.  So yah, we passsed!  Well done Biscuit.  Now we get cheap dog rego too, so extra bonus.

Parent Teacher/ Ukulele Lessons

Submitted by TiM on

We went to Parent Teacher last night.  Was a bit of a flap, got home, power ate dinner and then dropped the kids around at Peter and Mary's, shot back to school to talk to Ms Williams.  She said that Beth is doing great, really well with her reading.  She's going to test her today for Level 12, which is what they need to be achieving by the end of the year.  She's doing fine with her maths too, but she said we should focus more on that with her because that's the thing she's not as good at and she tends to always want to do the things she knows she can do (reading) instead of maths.  But overall she's doing really well, has lots of friends and seems to be settling in nicely.  Certainly Ms Williams didn't mention anything that we need to be worried about which is...

So a Half Marathon is Actually 21.1km

Submitted by TiM on

Went for another half Marathon yesterday.  I ran exactly 21km and turned off my GPS.  Imagine my annoyance/horror when I synced up my watch and nothing told me I'd done a half Marathon.  Argh! Turns out it's exactly 21.1km, so I was 100 metres short.  What a pisser.  Doesn't really matter, I've got lots more changes coming up over the next month to do it again, so not a big deal.  And I manually recorded it on the Garmin as a half, so pffffft to you, Strava.

Once I was back from that missions we went into town for a late breakfast at Anjana Eatery, then down to "Decorate a Godwit, Napier CBD. The chance for children and families to decorate and paint a wooden Godwit!".  Beth and Theo had a great time (for 5 minutes) painting their birds.  An old lady helped Theo paint eyes on his...

Trip to Tasmania / Who throws a chair?

Submitted by TiM on

I got back yesterday morning from 4 days in Tasmania.  Well 5 I guess if you count the fact I arrived Friday night about 10pm, finally.  The whole trip was bounded by terrible flights that just cocked up all the time.  The first flight from Napier to Auckland went fine.  Then I got on the plane to fly to Melbourne and we sat on the tarmac for what turned out to be about two and a half hours while they waited for paperwork to say the patch job they'd done to the cargo hold was safe and allowed.  That was heaps of fun, just sitting there, waiting and waiting.  They bought around icecream and stuff like that, but it didn't really make the wait any better.  Eventually we took off and arrived in Melbourne.  Because of the huge delay my flight to Hobart was missed and I was booked on...

In Auckland

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from a couch in a small apartment in the heart of Auckland! Sarah and I are up here, along with Holly and Adrian, for the Six60 concert tonight.  It's going to be a huge, it's the front page of the paper how big it's going to be.  A sold out 50,000 people are going to attend.

We arrived yesterday afternoon after flying up and Ubered into town.  In fact we have Ubered everywhere, it's mental.  It's easier/cheaper than hiring a car, all the hassle of having to park it etc etc.  It certainly makes popping here there and eveywhere for a drink super easy, I can see why it's so popular.  I hope it comes to Napier, but given how small Napier is I doubt it probably will.  Or at least not for a few more years yet.

Theo's cough is still quite bad, though I haven't seen him...

Happy Birthday Sarah - Elton John @ The Mission Tickets

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Birthday to my lovely wife for yesterday!  We had a regular morning, the kids made some birthday cards for Sarah and took them up to her.  There was a bit of a miscommunication between Beth and Theo: I drew Theo holding Big Bae on his card for him, then Beth helped and drew some hair on the Theo character.  I left the room for 5 minutes only to come back into the lounge to Theo SCREAMING because Beth was trying to draw on his head with pencil.  After everyone had calmed down we got to the root cause, Theo had asked for his hair to be coloured in, so Beth had complied.  The problem being that Theo meant for his hair on the drawing to be coloured in, while Beth didn't realise this and was trying to colour in his actual scalp with pencil.  Which of course hurt thus...

Preloading The Diary

Submitted by TiM on

I've installed a lovely little hack on Tim's Diary that means my website goes super fast now!  It's still running on the same old slow-as-a-boot webserver, but now as soon as you visit the main page, your web browser is told to preload all the links/stories it sees.  So by the time you read the headline and decide to click on it, when you click on it it's actually already loaded and it will display straight away.  I means that in the webserver logs it appears someone who visits my diary then reads about 20 pages in the space of...

Welcome to the World F̶r̶a̶n̶k̶i̶e̶ Fletcher Harman

Submitted by TiM on

He's arrived!  Big congratulation to Jeremy and Nicole on the arrival of F̶r̶a̶n̶k̶i̶e̶ Fletcher Harman, born 12.09pm on Thursday the 7th February, 3.38kg!  One day soon we'll get used to the fact his name isn't Frankie, but today isn't that day yet.  The kids aren't quite sure why he's got a "new" name and it's too hard to explain.  Theo took a picture of Fletcher to Kindy on Friday and showed him off for news.

Went for a 15km run this morning!  My longest run in a very long time.  Both knees held up really well, a couple of hours later and neither of them is sore or tired.  Did it just over an hour and a half too, so pretty happy with that.  I'd like to be a bit faster but all I really care about now is making it all the way, speed be damned.

I picked a watermelon and...

Back to School

Submitted by TiM on

Back to School for Beth today.  She's in Miss Williams class this year.  She was very nervous/apprehensive/sad about going even though we talked to her lots about it.  I guess all children were the same.  Getting to school was mental, it's only 1km from here but the roads were jam packed, it would have nearly been faster to walk.  But I was in the car too and we had Theo, so we drove.  Once we'd dropped Beth off (well, Sarah did) we dropped Theo off and then Sarah dropped me off at the scooter place.
