Farewell Granny

Submitted by TiM on

Said goodbye to Granny yesterday after 6 weeks of having her here to visit.  The kids are going to miss her heaps, already both of them have said as much.  They've had such a great time with her, especially out on the farm. I remember one morning when we went to pick them up and they'd just finished feeding the cows some hay and they were in the wheelbarrow with Granny pushing them around the paddock!

I scootered out to the airport at 12:30pm to say a final farewell.  Theo was there too with Sarah, he was feeling quite sad yesterday, probably a side-effect of his 4 year old "well child" check-up and injections the day before.  He handed his check-up and injections a lot better than Beth, I remember he coming home telling us that her arms weren't' working, sure that we'd disabled her for life. We were talking...

Happy 6th Birthday Bethany Bongles

Submitted by TiM on

Beth turned 6 yesterday.  In all the excitement and business of the day, I forgot to publish a story then!

We are so proud of you little sausage, you're kind and caring to your brother (well, everyone really) and you're doing so well at school with your reading and writing.

I made pancakes for her birthday, which she was quite happy with, as was Theo.  Then we had some presents, she got new shoes, a new skirt from Auntie Maggie, a new schoolbag that's big and can fit all her books and things in.  A new TY who's name is errr, I can't remember.  But its Birthday is the 25th of March, Beth's told me that about 6 times.

Chris and Barbs came home last night (we didn't see them) so Granny has moved in for a couple of days before she heads home tomorrow.  It's been really good that...

Rotating Banners

Submitted by TiM on

Finally got rotating banners working with Drupal 8.

They're not perfect, they're a bit bigger than they need to be.  But they work, you get three new random images on each front page reload (the three images don't change, you have to reload the page to get a new three images).  And due to how it picks images at random, it might pick the same image twice, or even three times.  But yea... It's random :-)

One day I'll get the silly icons back too... Oneday.

Granny's Birthday / Casino Night / Lost Phone / Piano Lessons / Bye Bilby

Submitted by TiM on

Been a very exciting couple of weeks!  First of all it was my Birthday a couple of Thursday's ago and we basically took over Vinci's.  Pulled 5 tables together, ordered 4 full sized pizzas and got stuck in.  We also BYO which was great, Thursday night too turned out to be no-corkage night, so that was even better.  Well, for us, not so much for Vinci's.  Had a really lovely night though, thanks to the lovely family for turning up!

On the Friday night Granny and Bilby took the kids for the night, so Sarah and I went out to drinks with Sarah's old workmate David, then we went and got dinner at Sai Thai.  I've had a lunch there before, takeaway, but the dine in dinner was fantastic!  Really tasty food, we had a good night.

Saturday we went to collect the kids, finding them out with Granny feeding...

43 Today!

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Birthday today me. Beth told me this morning "Because it's your Birthday today I won't grizzle at all this morning".  Why can't it be my Birthday every morning?

Lucky me though.  I got:

  • Brave 2L Flagon
  • Brave T-Shirt (Be Brave, No Too Bloody Brave)
  • Lovely new pull-on boots
  • Chocolates
  • A singing Birthday card.

Pizza tonight at Vinci's!

Another Tooth Out!

Submitted by TiM on

Another tooth came out last night.  Beth tried to pull it out with string but it didn't really work this time, it was harder to get out.  Then suddenly it just came out in the bath.  The tooth fairy left $2 this time, and no special coin.

Biked up to Ukulele today, she's getting better every time we go.  Today she pretty much braked at all the places she needed to, I didn't have my heart leap into my throat at all.  She is very excited, she's handing out invitations to her 6th birthday party today.

Oh yes! Totally forgot! Last week I got knocked off MY bike.  Coming along Kennedy Road and a person turned left to pull into a kindy, bam.  I had nowhere to go, it was thankfully a very low speed crash.  I put a huge scrape in the ladies car, all that broke on my...

Disney on Ice

Submitted by TiM on

Granny and Bilby took Beth and Theo up to Hamilton on Saturday morning to go to Disney on Ice.  The performance was actually on Sunday, but Sarah booked them to stay up there overnight so that they didn't have to try to drive from 7am on Sunday and arrive already tired etc.  That was the plan anyway.

Sounds like they had a great time anyway, they arrived home last night, Theo with a Blaster Gun and Beth with a toy stuffed doggy.  They haven't told us too much about what they actually saw, but by all accounts they had a great time.  Mum said the kids were great the whole time, the biggest "drama" was Theo getting up at 4am in the morning on Sunday needing to do a poo, then loudly telling everyone "Wow this is a big poo, the biggest" etc.  Good work buddy.

Sarah and I had...

Beth's First Lost Tooth

Submitted by TiM on

Beth's first tooth came out last night.  It's been wobbly for about 2 months, even before we went to Thailand.  Finally last night we couldn't stand the tension anymore.  She'd brushed it and it would pretty much go horizontal, but it still wasn't coming up.  Sarah asked her if she wanted to pull it out with a string, to which she replied yes!  Not something I really thought that Beth would be up for, but she was.  So Sarah tied a string on and *yoink*, she pulled it out!  How brave is that?  For someone who's usually scared of anything like that, it was extra super brave of her.  So that's the story of how Beth's first tooth came out!

Sarah put the special Gold Coin she bought from the Tooth Fairy, along with $5 in coins, under her pillow last night and she was very excited when she woke...

Weighty Issues

Submitted by TiM on

Oh dear.  Nothing like a holiday to help you put on 5kg+.  I stepped on the scales on Friday and I was back to 90kg.  What a ripper! Time to start doing a bit more exercise again, maybe my running days aren't as far behind me as I thought.  We'll see.  I've been taking Biscuit for a nice early morning walk each day, I think it's good for him to go every day, we get to do a little bit of training and voice control which is good.  Though people probably don't really appreciate me barking commands at Biscuit at quarter past 6 in the morning.

Sallee and Bill are here, which is great!  They've been around most nights to play with the kids, pick them up from school etc.  When I got home tonight Bilby was reading a book to Theo, and Beth and Granny were folding washing.  We...

Last Day, Home Time

Submitted by TiM on

Last day today, I'm typing this as we fly from Auckland home to Sunny Napier.

We had a good night last night, we went to a hotel (that was in a mall, which was sort of bizzare) and had dinner.  Dad once again paid, Dad has paid for almost every activity we did in Brisbane, the Koala Trip, Lunch, The Brisbane Wheel.

Also a correction from my previous story, I accidentally put "The Yarra" for the Brisbane river.  As Sarah rightly pointed out, that's in Melbourne.  I'm a bad Australian.

But yes we had a good night, it was a nice dinner.  Poor little Fletcher wasn't quite feeling the best I don't think, he was very sad and upset if he was sitting still.  He was fine if he was being walked around though, so we all took turns in taking him for a walk up and down the empty...
