Two Front Teeth

Submitted by TiM on

Beth's two front teeth come out on Monday (20th).  The first one came out during the day, and the second one came out that night when I got her out of the bath, I rubbed the towel around her mouth to get it clean and she protested "Daddy look what you've done" and she held up the other one.  The tooth fairy gave her two $5 notes for her troubles.  Lucky the tooth fairy went up to the dairy earlier that day to get some change for the first tooth and ended up with two $5's!  Beth put them in a container under her pillow and was quite happy to see she'd earned herself $10.  She now speakths with the cutesth lisp, which she doesn't like being teased about.  Little sausage, growing up so quickly.

Otherwise I fairly standard work-at-home week.  We come out of Level 4 on Tuesday, right...

The Craziness Continues

Submitted by TiM on

EDIT: I totally forgot to write about my DIY skills!  The first week of lockdown the washing machine started beeping about "water problems".  After playing with it, I realised it was taking AGES to fill up, water was basically dripping in.  Not cool, but it was still working.  But then I decided I'd better fix it.  So I took out the drawers in the laundry to get to the pipes, turned off the water and unscrewed it.  Low and behold it was full of shit!  So I cleaned all the shit out of it and tested the washing machine!  And it... didn't work.  It was still buggered.  So I pulled the washing machine out and unscrewed pipes etc and looked the pipe going into the back of the machine and it's little filter was blocked too.  So I cleaned that as well and tada! It worked great!

Then I noticed...

Happy April Fools Day, The World Is Fucked

Submitted by TiM on

Well, April Fools Day huh?  Usually there'd be lots of funny stuff online, but considering that the world's fucked, I don't think there's going to be much funny stuff online today.  Could be wrong, but I haven't seen much yet and really who's got the time/bandwidth to be trying to pull off funny stuff?

Can't believe how much the world has changed since my last entry.  I mean you could see the virus was bad and that it was on its way around the world, but I would never have guess this effect on the world.  It's crazy.  Utterly crazy.  It's going to take years to recover from it, and I expect the world wont' ever quite go back to how it was.  Anyway, I'm not going to bore my future self with that blather.

Gosh I've tried to write this diary entry about 6 times I think, each time...

Brewing Up A Storm

Submitted by TiM on

I took last Friday off to go out to WilliamsWarm and collect my brewery.  I hired a trailer from the BP and drove out there, very excited!  They were expecting me too and promptly wheeled out the whole setup and helped me load it into the car and onto the trailer.  Then it was a careful drive back home, making sure the fridge on the trailer wasn't going to slide around or anything.

Once home I unloaded most of the stuff, cleaned out the shed and got some the basic bits setup!  There were lots of boxes, each with some part of the setup in it.  But after lots of careful screwing and assembling the beerfridge with its taps was ready to go!  Exciting!  Then it was time to forget about beer for a while and clean up around the house and take a trailerload of crap to the dump. ...

10 Year, Beer Brewing, X-Race

Submitted by TiM on

So yes! Friday was our 10th Wedding Anniversary.  Hooray for us!  I left Sarah a big bunch of flowers and a card on the kitchen counter before I headed to work, then at lunchtime she came to pick me up to take me "Somewhere secret" and so off we drove.  I honestly had no idea where we could be going - I  was thinking maybe for a Helicopter flight or something like that, but she'd said to me "We can go anytime really, so just whenever is easy for your work" so I knew it wasn't something with a strict timeline.  Anyway we ended up parked outside a huge shed in Hastings.  No signwriting or anything to say what they are, turns out they're the WilliamsWarn brewshop!  She's been saving up for a while and got me a BrewKeg10 Complete Pack Plus which is 2 x 10L kegs you...

Marching into March

Submitted by TiM on

Another 2 weeks go by dear diary.  Sarah's been really crook since Elton John, laid up in bed with a really bad cough most of the time.  I mean she's functional and taking the kids to school and doing a bit of work, but it's really knocked her around badly.  The kids still have a bit of a barking cough, but they mostly seem to be over it.  Of course the running joke now is that Sarah's got COVID-19.  Which of course is in New Zealand now (and Tasmania, I see) so that's just great.  Beth's a bit worried about it, not helped by the fact that sometimes when we have dinner in the lounge and the news is on, the news makes it sound super scary and horrible etc and she gets quite worried.

So what's been happening?  Well last weekend I got up early and did Parkrun, didn't...

Helicopter Day / Elton John x2 / Firestation / Sarah's Birthday / Waitangi Day

Submitted by TiM on

I tell you, one of the great things about having a camera that you take everywhere, is that it helps you to remember everything you've done over the last couple of weeks.  It's a great digital diary really, though it's the sort of thing that with age won't really age that well.  Like a random photo you don't quite remember why you took it, or where you where.  Actually where you were isn't a problem because all my photos have GPS points embedded in them, but anyway that's not really my point.  So anyway since the last update diary, we've been busy as usual.  Thursday the 6th was Waitangi Day which was of course a day off.  We took it pretty easy and didn't do a real lot, because that night Sarah went to Elton John! Yes she'd secured a ticket off Facebook at ticket value, not some scalper value. ...

Bee Sting MKII, Watch This, Splash Planet

Submitted by TiM on

Right so let's wind back to Friday the 24th Jan.  I was at work and I've been thinking for a while I wanted to get a new watch to replace my old Garmin.  It's been a faithful friend that Garmin Vivoactive 3m, it did all my Marathon training with me and then did the Marathon with me too.  It's a beast.  But it's also showing its age, its heart rate sensor is all cracked (apparently a common fault) and hell, everyone likes new toys.  Plus Sarah had recently got a new Garmin Venu so I was jealous.  Anyway I logged onto the Rebel Sports website and they were having 25% off ALL Garmin watches.  Off the one I wanted, that was $300 off.  So I headed into Rebel and they didn't have it, but I went to Noel Leeming who did, and who also do Price Match.  So I got...

Happy 70th Birthday John Harman / Shots Fired!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello Diary.  It's your old friend Tim, filling in you finally after a long absense.

Yesterday was John Harman's 70th Birthday, Happy Birthday Dad we hope it was a good one for you.  Shame we couldn't be there to celebrate it with you, but we did just get to see you in Tasmania just recently so that was nice!  We gave Dad a little video message we recorded, we'd have rung him but 7am is 5am in Tasmania and that just seems mean on your Birthday.

Sarah was up in Auckland last week, Saturday through to Tuesday.

So anyway on Sunday we drove out to Jaycar to get some gadgets for me (a Soldering Iron, new Multimeter).  We went to go to Carr's Kitchen for some lunch, but they were closed.  So I said to the kids we'd get something in Taradale.  So after buying my bits from Jaycar off...
