The LONG Bike Ride / Auckland / Fucking Google

Submitted by TiM on

Last weekend on Sunday I asked Theo if he wanted to go for a long bike ride.  He's said before he does and when we go riding he always wants to know how far we've ridden (which I always record with my Fenix 6 watch because I'm a nerd).  So I thought I'd see if he wanted to do an extra long ride out to the Puketapu pub! He was sure that he did, so we got on our bikes and off we went.  He did such a great job too, it's an 11.2km ride and it wasn't until about 8km in that he decided he really was tired and he'd was getting sore legs.  You can't blame him, those tiny wheels need so much more peddling than my huge bike with gears.  But full credit to him, he solidered on.  It was a bit hairy riding up along the...

Theo Loses Another Tooth, Pool Gone, Bike Rides

Submitted by TiM on

Theo's front tooth fell out on Sunday night.  It'd been threatening to do so for a while, being super wobbly and all.  It started to bleed everywhere but he still wouldn't grab it out, but eventually on his bed it came out.  Seeing as he's (accidentally) lost the previous two, when he held up what a appeared to be a piece of dead popcorn from his floor and loudly exclaimed "My tooth came out!" I thought oh no, he's lost this one too!  But a quick search of the floor located the actual tooth, while the piece of dead popcorn he thought was his tooth was deposited into the rubbish bin.  The tooth fairy visted overnight and gave him $2 for his tooth, which he seemed pretty happy about.

I've taken Theo for a couple of bike rides the last few weekends, two weekends ago we went for a 5km...

Datacentre Tiki Tour

Submitted by TiM on

Got back last night from an extensive Now NZ Datacentre Tiki Tour.  We had a flight booked to Welligton on Tuesday afternoon, but the weather put a stop to that with the most amazing wind gusts.  The flight got cancelled, I tried to get us on another flight but it was all sold out in minutes and anyway I don't know it would have flown because of how bad the weather was.  So it was get-in-the-car-and-drive time, which is what we did.  Four and a half hours later we were in Wellington at our Wellingon Exchange.  Which is of course the building I have known and "loved" as "The NIL" which is where I did heaps and heaps of work for Prophecy on Spark's Mobile network.  The NOW Rack is on a different floor than the NIL, of course, but it was still a blast to realise they were one...

New Job

Submitted by TiM on

So I've finally started my new job.  In fact now that I'm writing this diary entry, I'm 3 weeks into my new job, so I'm almost an old hand at it.  OK not quite, but it's certainly a very busy job with so much to do, lots to learn, but also heaps to do that I already know how to do and just have to get on and do it!

My first day I arrived and said hi to everyone, most of whom I'd already met a number of times in the interviewing or pre-starting process.  My laptop was already setup, I already had a swipe card with my name printed on it and everything was setup and working.  I think that's the first time I've started at an organisation and everything's been ready to go, but then again I'm not changing jobs that often these days so probably my...

Trip to Auckland 2021

Submitted by TiM on

We drove up on Thursday afternoon after I spent my last day at Prophecy, which really was me just getting in there and saying thanks for the party the night before, cleaning up the remainder of my desk and formatting and handing back in my work laptop.  My really lovely little XPS13 with 32G of RAM and a 2TB SSD.  In a 13" package.  Man I'll miss that little laptop, it was a corker.  Anyway I'd already put the dog in the doggery that morning before heading into work, so he was all sorted out.  I ubered home and we got ready.  I then went to pick up the kids from School, I tried to explain to them it was their last day even though it was a Thursday, but it didn't really sink in I don't think, Theo was still excited to go back to school the next day...

Parties, Illness, Otatara Pa

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday was a day for Parties!  Beth went to Gwen's Party at the Aquarium at 9am, then at 12pm Theo went to his friend Luke's party.  Both kids seemed to have a great time, Beth made a little penguin (Flip) and Theo got a slinky in his goodie bag.

Sarah was sick yesterday, I think she might have the same cold that Theo, then I, got.  It stopped me running for about 2 weeks, though I finally got off my butt yesterday and managed to do 5km.  Did pretty well, but my heart rate was def higher than normal so a lack of exercise obviously has taken its toll.

Today we left Sarah behind and did a walk up and along Otatara Pa.  I was a 2km loop track, but up and down some decent heights and quite a few fence "up and overs".  The kids really enjoyed it...

Catching Up on Tim's Life!

Submitted by TiM on

Been ages since I've written a decent diary entry.  Of course last weekend for Easter we were in Gisborne, I've written that story here so I'm not going to go over it again.  Of course the biggest news is that I've resigned from Prophecy and am going to go and work for NowNZ.  They've been our ISP at home for the last 8 years, so it'll be neat to go and work for them.  I've been on 4 days a week for what seems like a year, but I think it's only ~8 months or so.  Maybe even a little less.  Still a long time though, so it certainly helped accelerate my desire to find something else.  I'm also not too sure about the future of Prophecy for a number of reasons that aren't worth going into here, suffice to say there's enough going on to make me really wanted...

Easter Trip to Gisborne

Submitted by TiM on

On Good Friday I got up and took Biscuit out to his regular place of doggery, Chesterhope Kennels.  Came back home and got the kids fed with breakfast and packed up the car ready for our trip up to Gisborne.  We left about 10am and boy oh boy is the road from Napier up to Gisborne steep and windy.  Not a great drive at all, we had given Beth a motion sickness pill though so she did a really good job of keeping it together.  Just before Wairoa we stopped and had a little break at the side of the road, it was there we realised I'd forgotten to pack Beth's Jandels and all she had was her shoes.  Ooops.  No worries, back on the road we stopped in at Mahia about an hour downt the road, first of all finding a big beach to look out over before heading...

I've Resigned!

Submitted by TiM on

Hi all,

I’m sad to report that Tim Harman has tendered and we have accepted his resignation.

This was Tim’s second tour of duty with the company, and this time around he was with us for 8 years.

His contributions have been numerous and we will miss his expertise as well as his humour.

Tim’s last day will be the 20th of April.  We’ll organise a farewell get-together for those in the HB, and I am working on plans to get him to Wellington for a day.

We wish Tim all the best!

Cheers,

-jonny
