Talent Show, Auckland Trip, Bake A Cake, Website Upgrade

Submitted by TiM on

Theo's spent the last few night practising for a Talent Show at school.  We sat down and marked out 5 jokes from his beloved Joke Book to read out, making it easy for him to find with sticky notes so he could just flip to the right page.  He practised reading out his jokes with Diney the Dinosaur "talking" while each was being read out.  It was the Talent Show yesterday and it sounds like it went well, though he's told us varying things about it like he didn't score well, but then he scored 12 out of 15 (we think?) etc.  Anyway regardless of how he scored, he did it which is great.  It was a big deal for him to do and Sarah said he was obviously nervous about it yesterday when he was being dropped off at school, so I'm glad he got up on stage and...

Drupal 9

Submitted by TiM on

Welcome to Drupal 9.  Is it much different to Drupal 8, or 7, or 6 or any of the previous versions?  No, it is not.  It's pretty much exactly the same thing.  But Drupal 8 is going end of life soon, that'll mean no more security updates etc etc, so it was time to get on the D9 bandwagon.  Thus here we are.  Of course the old Drupal 8 theme doesn't work, so I have this horrid thing at the moment.  I'll get a better one when I get around to it.

Edit: Newer theme applied. This'll do for the...

Google Engineer Phone Call

Submitted by TiM on

So I've been dealing with a guy at Google, Johny his name is.  He's the guy that called me the first night I logged a ticket when I realised what'd happened to Sarah's email address, and he rang me last night pretty much 2 minutes after I sent them a "We have resolved the issue!" email.  The relief in his voice was obvious, he skipped the whole "This call is being recorded for quality purposes" speech etc.  He was so happy it was fixed - he apologised again about 2-3 times for not having helped get it fixed sooner and...

Heavy Metal

Submitted by TiM on

Finally got around to taking all the scrap metal from the pool to the metal yard on Saturday morning. Ken from down the road was nice enough to lend me his trailer again - he's a nice guy but won't accept anything as a thank you.  I'll have to ring his wife and see what he likes and get him something like that. I don't even know if he likes a beer or something - he won't tell me.  Anyway after pulling out all that metal I'm now $78 richer.

Took the kids swimming, they're getting a little bit better each week.  Beth's dives were good, and Theo's "survival backstroke" was much better - he actually moved this week.  The last few weeks there's lot of kicking/splashing etc but not much movement.  When we got back home Sarah had already left with Holly and Mary to go to Danniverke for...

It's Fixed. It's Actually Fixed.

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah woke me up at ~11pm last night to tell me "It's Fixed"  She told me her Google Account was renamed back to what we needed it to be named.  At first I thought I was dreaming, but then she explained what she did and how she did it.  Naturally I still figured I was dreaming, so I went and got my laptop and checked and I was still semi sure I was dreaming.  See I've had dreams about 50 times where "It's fixed!" and I check it on my laptop and it's fixed.  But then I wake up and it's not fixed, it's still broken.  But it's the morning now and I've checked again 2 times and it's really actually fixed.

I will write up a long technical explaination of what the problem is, how we got some really terrible basic trouble shooting from Google which finally fixed the...

The Love will Remain The Same

Submitted by TiM on

Last night at midnight I was up getting a drink of water, I must have disturbed Beth or something anyway she got up and went to the toilet.  When she came out I said Hi and she lit up and said "I love you Daddy!".  I helped her hop back into bed and she said "I love you Daddy and the amount of love will always remain the same.  Mummy too, the amount of love will always remain the same" and then she smiled and closed her eyes and went back off to sleep.

A very random midnight encounter.  But...

The Flattening Machine

Submitted by TiM on

On Tuesday night Beth came upstairs about 10pm.  We heard her before she was even on the stairs, the sobbing and wailing gives away the fact she's up and awake.  I intercepted her on the stairs to see what the problem was and in a panic she asked me where the "Flattening Machine" was.  Poor sausage.  I took her upstairs and she jumped in bed between between Sarah and I.  After 10 minutes of just general sobbing and wailing that no words could settle, she properly woke up and was happy to be walked back downstairs to hop in and...

Theo's Joke Book

Submitted by TiM on

Mum bought Theo a joke book (Roald Dahl's Marvellous Joke Book) and it arrived yesterday via the courier.  He loves it.  It's the first book he's ever had where he's asked if he can keep reading it, by himself, once he's tucked into bed.  Beth's been doing that since she first was able to read little books pretty much, Theo's never shown much interest.  But the joke book, that's something else.  I heard him in there howling to himself once I'd closed his door.

First thing this morning it was trotted out along with Big Bae, to sit on Daddy's lap for our morning "Time in the Lounge" as Theo calls it.  So we read a few more jokes, then I said it was time for breakfast and he bought it to the table and kept reading!

So thanks for that Granny.  The jokes are pretty hit and miss, but...

Crazy Cart, Bike Ride, Poor Sarah

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah is STILL sick and blowing snot.  Poor thing - she's really having a terrible time with whatever it is she's got.  She's been laid up in bed pretty much since Tuesday with Theo.  She went out on Friday with the kids for a few small adventures, but that's been about it.  Oh and today we went to Anderson Park so Theo could ride his Crazy Kart in "High Speed" mode instead of Slow like it's been in at home.  High Speed was lots of fun for him, he had a great time though it's a bit hard for him to steer, he doesn't quite get the concept of steering it yet I don't think so trying to do it at pace wasn't a great idea.  Only one little crash though, didn't hurt himself and got straight back on.

I took them for a bike ride this morning, Biscuit came...

Happy 6th Birthday Theodore

Submitted by TiM on

It's Theo's 6th Birthday today.  Amazing that he's grown up so quickly.  He's still such a happy little boy.  I spent most of the day with him yesterday (it's the first week of the school holdiays) and we hung out and built a Minecraft Lego he got from The Mooneys.  Then we went up to the library and he got out some books, he was excited because I got him (and Beth) his own library card.  We went to the cafe and had a snack and a chat about all the things he loves to chat about, which is mostly Minecraft, or maths.  Still loves maths, loves thinking about any number discussion in different ways.  It was a fun day anyway, though very very cold so we couldn't go for a bike ride or do much fun outside.

Same today for his Birthday.  As soon as his Star Clock went...
