Last Day, Home Time

Submitted by TiM on

Last day today, I'm typing this as we fly from Auckland home to Sunny Napier.

We had a good night last night, we went to a hotel (that was in a mall, which was sort of bizzare) and had dinner.  Dad once again paid, Dad has paid for almost every activity we did in Brisbane, the Koala Trip, Lunch, The Brisbane Wheel.

Also a correction from my previous story, I accidentally put "The Yarra" for the Brisbane river.  As Sarah rightly pointed out, that's in Melbourne.  I'm a bad Australian.

But yes we had a good night, it was a nice dinner.  Poor little Fletcher wasn't quite feeling the best I don't think, he was very sad and upset if he was sitting still.  He was fine if he was being walked around though, so we all took turns in taking him for a walk up and down the empty mall while the rest of us ate our dinner.  We weren't going to get desert but the Jeremy looked at the menu, so of course we all had to look at the menu. Plus the kids meals came with a "Frog in a Pond" anyway, so in the end we all had a desert.  Typical Harmans.

It's been really good to meet Fletcher, he's growing very well and is such a chilled out little dude.  Nothing much seems to phase him, out of all the times (4-5) we saw him, not once did he ever really cry hard or complain.  Only last night did he have a bit of a sadness going on, probably because he had a cold.  And Theo is sitting next to me watching Wild Kratts on my phone and sniffing and snorting.  So maybe he (or Beth) gave the cold to Fletcher, or they gave it to him.  Anyway, it doesn't matter, Fletcher is doing great and it's been lovely to get to meet him and see how well he's doing, we look forward to meeting him at Christmas time.

This morning we packed up our little unit and a lovely flash Merc people transporter came to pick us up.  We had to fight with the stupid keysafe thing at the front of the apartment, first of all I couldn't get the damn thing to open, then when I finally did after 5 minutes of getting crabby with it, I was stuffed if I could get the damn thing to close up properly.  In the end after another few minutes fighting with the damn thing we gave up, closed it as best as we could (not secure) and texted the AirBNB person to tell them it wasn't working properly.  Not great, but hey, at least we did the best we could under the circumstances, it was nearly 7am, our flight left at 9:30am and we hadn't even left the unit yet.

The ride in car was really nice, our driver was great.  Very professional, nice with the kids, proper childrens car seats etc.

The flight from Brisbane to Auckland was pretty uneventful, it was a damn Virgin fight so we were all course all packed in like sardines, the toilet was tiny.  In fact trying to board they'd told us we couldn't take our 23kg bag, but I got all shirty and told them we had a 30kg limit (true) and so they made me wait in the special queue etc, claiming the bag belt wouldn't hold it.  Well what do you know the special queue dumped the bag on the same damn belt.  ANYWAY bitch moan complain, we made it to our plane and like I said, boring and uneventful.

Arrived in Auckland, bought some duty free.  I never usually bother, but I do love Gin now in my old age, specially Rouge Society or "Scapegrace" as it's rebranded.  So I bought myself a bottle of that and a bottle of some other (cheaper) Gin.  Now all I need to do is find a 24 x 200ml slab of Tonic water like Peter Chats managed to find for us in Thailand.  That was really handy for always ensuring your G&T wasn't flat!

Ok well that's enough blabber now, it's getting dark outside, we'll be landing soon and Holly is going to come and collect us from the Airport.  Mum also arrives today for six whole weeks which is going to be a right lark, the kids will love that.

Chow.
