Beth can ride her bike!

Submitted by TiM on

Beth learnt how to ride her bike without training wheels this weekend!  We were so impressed with her.  We took her down to the Bike Park into the soft padded area and started out really slowly, first a metre by herself, then two, then from one end to the other.  Within 10 minutes she was doing what you can see in the video, riding around by herself!  After such success we took her outside the soft padded area into the regular bike park bit and off she went!  Every now and then she'd need help, she can't get started by herself and braking is still a major hurdle for her.  But she can steer pretty well (I had to leap in to avoid a few crashes with smaller children on their scooters/bikes) and seems to do a great job controlling herself.  The biggest and best thing of all though was even though she crashed a few times, fell off, tipped over, hurt her knee etc, every time she got back on her bike and kept going!  It's a real achievement for her, she used to give up and not want to keep trying after the smallest issues before, but she just kept trying and trying and she got better and better at it.  It was so great to see, and she's so happy with herself that she can ride her bike without the training wheels anymore.

So that was great!  As a reward for sticking at it and not giving up, we took her (and Theo, of course) to Farmers to buy a toy.  Beth chose a Rainbocorn, this one, and has named it GeeGee.  Theo chose a Lego, of course, because he can't get enough Lego in his life apparently.

Then we went home, Beth had a party to go to, Theo and I hung out at home doing not much.

Sunday we got up and went to the Farmers Market, we were supposed to meet Holly and Adrian but we forgot.  Still, it was a perfect day for it, so we had a nice day there.  Went home and Theo and I spent the afternoon outside doing chores, he loves to help.  He helped me move the BBQ, sort all the recycling, very diligently pointed out every single dog poo he found on the back lawn for me to clean up before Bo's Mows came on Monday to mow the back lawn.

Monday night Theo helped me stack wood out the front etc.  He's every helpful, it's great.  Beth meanwhile has been too obsessed with GeeGee to think about helping with anything!

Took it really easy last week after my Marathon.  Monday I scootered to work, the idea of riding my bike was still "Nope".  Tuesday was OK, rode to work and rode every day after.  Oh except for Thursday because I realised the rear gear cable of my bike needed replacing, so I took it to the bike shop.  I could have tried myself but for $30 they fixed it and that's way less hassle than me swearing and not having any clue what I'm doing.

Sarah's had to get a knee brace for the injury she did here. That will hopefully help it to heal up fully.

Took Biscuit for a run this morning, did 5km with him.  He did a really good job responding to voice commands so I didn't have to keep him on a lead.  I'm not sure how he'd go if we ran past other dogs, me shouting at him seems to spur him on to keep moving, but another dog/person might be a different story.  We'll see.

That's about that!  Gotta get back to work.
