33km / Godzone / Movie Night 2 / Moon Machine / Windscreen

Submitted by TiM on

Did a big run on the Saturday just gone, 33km.  I had a false start when I got to the end of the street and realised I'd forgotten to put bandaids on my boobs.  If you don't do that man do you get some mega chafing that hurts.  But yup, I set off, it was a perfect lovely sunny day and I just went for it.  I'd done all my training runs during the week and was pretty much over the cold so I went really well.  3 hours and 33 minutes, not too shabby.  There was one section that was really hard because I'd run out of water and there wasn't anywhere to get a drink, so I slowed a bit there.  Hopefully on race day the drinks stations keep me going.  The main thing I stuffed up was the end point, usually I try and have it so the end of the run is close to home, but this time I miscalculated and my 33km ended about 2km from home that I then had to walk.  It was more of a painful shuffle than a walk, but at least I went past the dairy and got an iceblock and another litre of Gatoraid.

After the big run I came home and had a shower, then we all went out to Godzone which is this brewery / garden bar about 30 minutes out of Napier.  It's really nice, they basically have a huge paddock with toys and swings etc for the kids down one end, and seating for eating and beer drinking down the other end.  We sat out and ordered some pizza and beers and had a great time there for a couple of hours, the kids really seemed to enjoy it and we had a nice time.  The beer is nice and fresh, the pizza was really good.

We headed back home and we setup Movie Night again for the kids.  This time they wanted to watch Despicable Me 3, which they've seen before but who cares.  I made them popcorn and they watched the movie having a great ol' time.  This time when it was time to go to sleep they hadn't had a sleep,  so they drifted off without too much grief.  It helped that we had Theo's Moon Machine.  That's this $10 star and moon projector that Sarah bought for him, almost as an afterthought, because she'd bought Beth this lovely LED Neon Unicorn Light for her room.  Anyway Beth likes her Unicorn light but Theo FREAKING LOVES his Moon Machine.  It rotates and has buttons for him to press.  Now he demands that we "Close the door ALL THE WAY" at night so his room is as dark as possible so that his room fills up with moons and stars.  It works really well anyway, he just loves to watch it as he goes to sleep, he rolls over the other way now especially to look at it.  Beth loves it too and yea, it certainly helped them both go to sleep when it was placed in the lounge room for them.

Sunday was pancakes day, they both slept really well in the lounge together so that was nice!  Then Sarah dropped Beth off at Gwen's for the day, so Theo and I went into town to go to World Train (he doesn't call it that anymore sadly, he knows it's called TrainWorld now) and he had a great time playing there for an hour or so before getting bored.  Then we went to the Bike Park for an hour and he whizzed around SuperFast on his scooter.  Always demanding to be filmed going super fast, which I did.  80-60-9!

Then we went to pick Beth up and came back home... weekend over!

The damn car windscreen has been a saga.  It got a chip it in while we were away over Easter, big truck flicked up a massive stone etc.  When Sarah took it in to get repaired with their chip machine, the chip machine stuffed up and put a huge crack in the windscreen so they said they'd have to replace it.  No worries.  A week and a bit later they said.  It was booked in for Tuesday, we shuffled things around and organised people to help us, with 15 minutes to go before the car was getting dropped off we got a call sorry the glass isn't in yet, bring it back tomorrow?  So yesterday I dropped the car off again, only to get a call an hour later "Sorry this glass isn't the right size, bring it back again tomorrow?".  So today for the 4th attempt I'll take the car in, I don't hold out a lot of hope.  Avoid Smith and Smith in New Zealand, no wonder they have to keep advertising how great they are on TV because they're fucking atrocious.  Ugh.

Beth had to come home early from School yesterday, she managed to have a big collision at lunchtime and now has a bit of a black eye/cheek where she based into someone.  She's OK, but Sarah had to walk up at get her (because I was in a meeting @ work and I had the car for the failed Windscreen repair).  She's fine though.

Biscuit's going well, I've been trying to teach him to roll over this week, with zero success.  He seems to get it sometimes, but mostly thinks it's another big game for him. Speaking of big, he is.  BIG.  A miniature poodle he sure isn't.  But he's very happy, if a bit dopey.

I think that's everything exciting that's happened.  I've been doing my other training runs during the week, it's taper time now so it was 5km on Tuesday, 10km yesterday.  Supposed to be 7km today but Sarah's already at the airport so I'll do a run tonight or probably tomorrow.  Then it's 13km.  Then next week is like 5,7,4 and then MARATHON DAY.  Exciting!

Be sure to send Mary Chats a txt/email, she just had all her teeth redone.  ALL OF THEM.  Poor thing.  She's coming along nicely though.

And finally sorry if you got a message about being unable to access the website.  I installed mod_defensible but got a bit carried away with the blocklists I used. Whoopsie.

Well, I love the moon and star projector, we need to get one for Bill because he has trouble sleeping, I couldn't see the unicorn light, but bet it is lovely too.  Sorry about your black eye Beth, I hope it isn't hurting now.  The beer garden in the paddock looks like fun for everyone and GOOD LUCK for the big run on Saturday Tim dear.  While Fletch is getting dipped in the font, you will be wishing you could be dipped in a font of frothy somewhere too.  Please take it easy, slow and steady..don't try and break any land speed records..whatever happens, I'm very proud of you, you have put so much into the big run.
