Help! This Dog has Rabies!!!
Well as you may guess by the title, I went and did my first days work out at the SPCA today. It was so much fun!! Sure, it was hot, stinky, I nearly got bitten a few times, but it was really really fun. I caught the train out at 10am (they run every hour on Saturday, so it's sit around for ages) and then walked from the Train Station to the Shelter. I'd forgotten just how long that takes (an hour) and buy the time I got out to the shelter I was already hot and sticky. Didn't matter though, it was about to get a lot stickier!
Stupidy I'd worn jeans out there. It was supposed to be rainy and horrible today, but it was a perfect day. Inside the shelter where the dogs are it was even hotter. Plus the fact I was wearing overalls aswell.
Only a few minor problems though, not bad for my first day. I was in a dog pen with 2 dogs, patting one with one hand, and one with the other. A group of the public had gathered to look at them to see if they wanted to take one home. So I'm patting them and smiling at the public and patting them and GRRRT WOOF GROWL BITE SNARL tearing them off each other while 10 members of the public look on in shock. It was ok, they didn't hurt each other. They just get jealous of each other when someone is giving them some attention.
I had 2 escapees in another pen, but they didn't get far before I rounded them back up. The worst thing that happened was when I was talking one of the dogs for a walk. He stopped and started to cough and hack and cough and hack and drool out bot sides. This kept up for about 30 seconds, and I was just about ready to scream for a vet, but then he gave one massive cough and was fine. Not sure what the problem was, but once it was over and we (I was with another person walking a dog) realised the dog was OK we fell over laughing. It was pretty funny, after the fact.
So it was a pretty good day. I certainly enjoyed myself, there wasn't anywhere near as much turd scraping as I thought there'd be. I even managed to get a lift back down to the train station, which was nice.
My flatmates have just walked out the door laughing. They think I'm shitting myself about jumping tomorrow. I'm not, not yet. Like I said to them, I think when I actually get out of the car tomorrow and see the plane, then maybe I'll start screaming...
