The Wedding

Submitted by TiM on

On Saturday the 13th of January Chris and Simone got married!! It was a really nice day, perfect for a perfect wedding. And I was lucky enough to be the best man...

The day started off with me saying goodbye to Chris at about 9am so I could go down to the sailing club and get a quick sail or 2 in before I had to go back to the wedding. I know it's traditional to spend the whole day with the groom when you're the best man, but it was the only chance I was going to get to go sailing and I wasn't about to pass it up.

It was a perfect day down at the sailing club, and I went for a pretty good (if not too short) sail with Rob on his boat Wild Thing. It wasn't really windy enough to get a good blast, but it was nice enough to have a quick sail around to Blackmans Bay and back. Once I got off the water it was about 1:40pm, and seeing as the wedding was at 4:30pm I thought maybe I should back to Chris' place in case he was freaking out. Turns out he'd tried to ring me about 10 time to find out where the f**k I was. And he claimed he wasn't stressing out!!

After getting all dressed up in our wedding kits (and a few more minor dramas about who was wearing who's suit) we were all ready to head down to the wedding. Just as we were walking out the door Chris asked me if I had the rings with me. Shit! Nearly forgot them. Thankfully we'd remembered them before we got to the church...

Once we arrived at the Church we did the usual round of photos and meeting people while we waited for the bride to arrive. When the bride did arrived she was looking very beautiful in her white wedding dress and flowers. Meanwhile I was stressing out about the rings, I didn't want to just put them in my pocket in case they slipped through a rip in the material or something, and the minister didn't want them in their boxes. In the end I put them into an empty film canister so stop myself stressing out. When it came time to give the rings over I just turned my back to the audience so that no-one would notice the "rings in film canister" trick. After I'd given the rings over I stopped shaking and was much calmer!

The whole wedding was a very nice affair, no dramas at all, no one fainted etc. Once it was over we all piled out and had our photos taken in various places, under the guidence of the photographer. I also got a few of my own in, which I'll post here tomorrow (Thursday) when I get them back.

After all that was over it was time for the reception which was at the Ritz in Hadleys hotel. The reception was really good too, all the speeches went well (I'm told mine was alright too)

There was lots of dancing and beer and dancing, the cake cutting and all the usual reception things. About 12:00am we decided it might be time to leave the Bride and Groom alone.

Congratulations to Chris and Simone, I wish them all the best for the future!
