School Holidays / Kapa Haka / Car Shopping
Have been doing a bit of car shopping this last week. Last Saturday (it was SOOO WINDY) we went to Turners and test-drove 3 cars. The first was a Fiat "Pop Star" which I didn't really like that much, it just felt boxy and uncomfortable. And also that name, a Pop Star. It probably wouldn't have been a bad car but I just wasn't feeling it. Then we test drove a Ford of some sort, I forget which (it was really nice) and then hell I can't even remember what the last one was. Two of them were auction cars and the third was a on-the-yard car. We debated during the week if we'd bid on the Pop Star but in the end we decided not to. Then on Wednesday Night Sarah found a Fiat Panda at Turners which I'm really keen to have a test drive of this weekend. It's a two cyclinder car, so pretty gutless, but it's turbo. It uses very little petrol and will be just perfect for what I want a car for, something small cheap and nothing flash. It's up for auction this coming Wednesday, we'll take it for a test drive today/tomorrow and see what we think, looking at other Panda's on TradeMe they seem to go for about $8k, but I'd like to try and get this one a bit cheaper if possible!
It was the last week of School for term 3 this week, Theo finally handed in his Minecraft thing he's been working on for ages with the help of his Teacher Mrs Dale. They had a busy week, Monday night was Theo's grading for Karate which he did a good job of and got his Brown Tip on his Green Belt. All going well at the end of the year he should finish with a Brown Belt! Tuesday night was Kapa Haka night, it was a long night for them, they had to get dropped off out at Pedigrew Arena at 5:15am and Parents all had to wait around until 5:45pm before we could go in. I had to zip back home to grab the tickets we'd left behind accidentally, turns out it didn't even matter though because to get everyone in they didn't even bother checking tickets. Kapa Haka was good but it went on for quite a while. Here's AMS's performance.
And then Thursday was their "Fun Day" at school, and Thursday night was the School Disco. Theo went as a Squid Mummy and Beth went as Hermione Granger.. They had a good time, though Theo came home complaining that "it hadn't gone well" for a number of silly reasons like he was eating a bag of chips when the Dance Off started, he hadn't gotten to spend all of his Disco Dollars and some other infraction that was equally as minor as those two.
Oh Beth came home with two certificates for being a good little chicken, that was nice for her!
Have been doing other insurance things this week, so much fun. Work provides me with some life insurance and that sort of stuff, so we can cancel the insurance we pay for ourselves. Also they have a group medical insurance plan so we can save more money that way. So that's good.
Sarah's been getting ready for her new job, having to organise a carpark in town. Something I didn't even think of but of course you have to park somewhere and while there is some free parking in town it's not exactly close to where she's going to be working! At least a paid for car park we can use on the weekend too, that'll be handy being able to head into town and not have to worry about finding a spot somewhere to park.
I went through Drupal and disables heaps of the modules I don't need. I'd suddeny started to creep up and add all sorts of things, none of which I really needed. I've removed anything not really necessary to running the website now - there's no point having a bunch of extra moduels that can break / go wrong or provide security issues. And while it's nice to have a menu bar etc, I can have 5 modules not in use if I disable it, so I've done that.
The Weather's been quite nice this week, quite hot etc. I've started getting the pool warmed up again because I thought it was goign to be 30c this weekend, but it seems that forcast earlier in the week might have been very wrong because it's now overcast and they say it's going to be raining this weekend. Boo.
