Holly's 40th / Warm Pool / Sick Theo

Submitted by TiM on

Friday Theo woke up with an even worse than it has been barking cough, and decided that he was just too sick to go to school.  I'm sure he wasn't, but the cough was very nasty and he was blowing lots of snot, so it seemed to make the most sense just to leave him at home.  I dropped Beth off up at school and reminded her multiple times to please go into the office to mark Theo off as sick.  Even as she was getting out of the car at "The Way of the Panda" I reminded her to go straight there and she got crabby with me "I know! You've already told me!".  Anyway of course she got out of the car and turned off that part of her brain because Sarah got a phonecall about 30 minutes later asking why Theo wasn't in school.  Doh.

Friday night we went to The Central Firestation Bistro for Holly's 40th birthday before they all head off to Bali for a nice little holiday.  We were in the private room which was good because the kids made quite a racket.  Well except for Theo who was looking a bit pale by the time they finally bought the kids meals.  Funny how a resturant like that can be so amazing at service etc but then forget things like getting the food out to the kids.  They were bringing out our starters and breads and the dips and the kids were "We're starving!".  Oh well, our food was amazing as always.  Dad I know you're going to be crabby reading this, we'll def go when you're here for Christmas.

Saturday I finally got off my chuff and brewed some more beer.  I haven't brewed any since last year, which is terrible!  I gave everything a superduper extra deluxe boiling water clean for ~30 minutes.  That's the hardest part of beer, making sure everything is nice and clean.  While I brewed beer the kids had a great time in the pool, I've been slowly heating the pool over the last week and it was 28c.  They loved it, it was like Summer they were in there for hours having a great time.  Beth's eyes got a bit red and stingy I think from the Chorine, but you've got to have it a bit higher than normal when the pool is super warm because the bugs really love warm water.  Oh we had Daisy over for Saturday night as well, Beth had a great time playing with her, to make Theo feel extra loved I slept in his room with him so that he had a sleepover buddy too.

The other thing I did on Saturday was bite the bullet and upgrade micro from Debian 11 to Debian 12.  It was a lot more painless than I was expecting it to be, everything (pretty much) just kept ticking along.  It wasn't until Sunday I decided to really have a go and try and drag Tim's Diary kicking and screaming from Drupal 9 to Drupal 10.  It shouldn't be that hard but composer is a bit of a bitch, dependancy hell and all that.  Eventually after reading a few guides and removing all but was fully necessary (and with a lot of help from the upgrade_status) module I had everything ready for about a 6th attempt, and this time "composer update" didn't spew out errors, I just trucked on and worked!  Everything upgraded.  Then it was just "drush @tjh updb" which powered through with no errors and here we are.  Sadly I haven't got the nice theme like I had because as it always seems when I go to a new version of Drupal I have to change themes again.  Oh well.  It's good to have PHP 8.2.7 instead of PHP 7.3 which old Debian had and everything kept moaning about.  It's nice to see my Debian Report not have 4-5 warnings about crap being too old.

Sarah made invites for Beth's Pool Party this weekend, check them out!

I think that's about all that's been happening, Sarah has some news coming up too but we'll wait until it's all confirmed and signed before we write about it on here!  And by we I of course mean I.
