Salami Antenna

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday morning packing the kids lunchboxes.  Theo always likes to get a couple of little Salami's, they're about 2inches long, in his lunchbox.  He always eats them.  Anyway when I went to get a couple of them out of the packet, one of them hadn't been cut properly and about 3mm of the salami above it on the production line was attached.  So it looked like the Salami had a little antenna/satellite dish on it, you could spin it around.  Anyway I pointed this out to Theo who agreed it was very cool and neat and I put it in his lunchbox and thought nothing more of it.

Cue bedtime, both kids are in bed.  Beth's howling because she's overtired, I wouldn't let her read and she's just generally sad.  So I go in and have a little talk to her, calm her down, give her a cuddle etc etc.  Go and sit back in the lounge.  10 minutes later I can hear more sobbing and howling so I think I'd better go an investigate.  I go into Beth's room and I ask "What's wrong Soss" and in that I-AM-A-DEFIANT-8-YEAR-OLD-GIRL voice she looks at me with a frown and says "It's not ME".

Oh.  So I go into Theo's room.  He's in tears!  "Whats' wrong little man?" "I, sniff sniff, I forgot to *crying and sobbing* I forgot to eat the Salami Antenna."  I was confused for a second, the what? Then I remembered our chat from the morning.  "I ate the Salamis but I kept the Antenna and then I forgot *sob sob sob* to eat it!".  Poor fella.  I gave him a cuddle, told him it's ok it's just a Salami Antenna, it's not a big problem.  Calmed him down, got him settled etc.  Poor little buddy.  Then I went and checked his lunchbox and, sure enough, there was the Salami Antenna attached to top half of the other Salami.  So I bought it into his room and gave it to him to eat, which cheered him up no end.

So yea.  That's the story of the Salami Antenna.
